I was sort of scheming a little of both, skinned fenders, with added tube suport work.
First thing is measure the rad support and get it square, always forget to do stuff like that from the start.

Well first off, let me say I have never hung F150 / Bronco fenders. Second, I will give credit to Autofab John for the following info - see link

http://www.autofab.com/fender_mount_instructions.htm

It does not show how to mount the fenders, but it is a good photo log of how to build the framework to replace inner fenders.
If you think you can or think you can't...you're right!

The only thing missing in that Autofab page is " You can do it" lol, I ll have to go shopping for some pipe, err tubing, scrapyard plumber moly should be fine there.

For a non race or dedicated prerunner type truck I'd say look at skinning the stockers. While skinning the stock fenders isn't super easy & quick (plus it doesn't have that cool "race" look), there is possibly* less work than doing the full tube setup like John shows and a bit more protection for the crap in the engine bay. Not to mention most if not all of the mounts for that BS can stay and you don't have to build new ones like you would with a tube structure.

*I say possibly because it took me waaaaaay too long to add the suppoert to Tony's fenders. Then again I was TIGing the things & that double layer or super thin sheet metal with glue between layers and galvanized type coating on the layers makes for a HORRIBLE time with the TIG.

Oh come on Steve, you knocked those fenders out in less than 4 hours and that included a lunch break.

BTW, if anyone is interested. I can have skinned fenders done for about 100 bucks. Thy includes some tube reinforcement to them. You obviously have to supply the fenders.

I seem to remember it being closer to 6 hours, but who knows as there was some BSing and a bit of lunch in there. All I know is it took way longer than I expected & than it should have. I had forgotten how much TIG welding on glued, stock panels blows. I swear I had to re-grind the tungsten no less than 50 times that day!

Does anyone have pictures of tube reinforced, skinned fenders?
Really would rather be hacking on the truck, than banging pictures of strange kids.

I got mine from Tony today. I'll take a pic of my inner skins in the morning and post them here.

And the fender liners?
I shopped my piles, i have a ton of odd lengths of tubes of small sizes, and even new clean stuff dad had in a secret stash behind a sheet metal pile, sneakier than a little kid  , still waiting for the kid with the parts truck to get here, found a cheapo cone filter incase i have to ditch the airbox, i can t see how to get the headlights out, must google that now.

Does this look like a start.

Need some welding and stuff , hatcheted the heater box a little so the liner would fit,
Lucky for me the previous owner used almost no bolts, or wrenches, so it came apart fast.

What did you end up doing with the inner liner? Screwed it in up higher?

It s too wet for pictures, so far i cut off the corner of the heater box, cut some reliefs in the fender liner along the edge where it would fasten to the stock fender lip, unbolted the battery tray from the fender and shoved the liner up.
Then i strung tie wraps through here and there to hold it up. Now i have to make up some mounting tabs, and a one inch block for the battery tray, plus some tubing to stiffen it all up. I forgot to get bolts so need to pick them up too.
These fenders seem to have an abnormally high arch, so i had to really fight , now the other side has less in the way, there s more on the drivers side , but less actually in the way, so it should go way faster, now that i know where to hack, umm cut.

Image

The rain stopped so i snapped a pic, this is just in place to see if it would go, you can see the relief cuts in the liner, i think the next is to get a tube or something on that cut radius, get a few bits tacked up and pull it to weld it up and paint the inner framework.

Throw some spot welds on that rolled tube of yours, and it will add tremendous strength to the inner skin. You will be in much better shape!

The plan is to trim the inner "skin" to the profile of the tube, and weld it in place , add a straight run fro the rad support to the firewall bracket
And some up down bits , so basically a fender cage inside a skinned fender. How am i doing ,keep in mind I am a long way from Baja.
