I've welded stuff once or twice.
tcm glx wrote:Also, why do you doubt it would be a problem? This bronco is a mall crawler?
The silicon bronze works really well for thick to thin metal joining because it's soft a flexes. It absorbs the flex of everything a chassis absorbs. Since your cab and frame are still separate those joints will not see as much movement which would cause cracking. On top of that it was welded correctly (not a solid bead, broken up every few inches).

It's kinda like welding to hydro formed heat treated frames... you are not supposed to do it in theory, but there is hundreds of trucks built that way without problems.

Got it! Thats awesome... only thing to ask here..... My frame and the cage will be mounted to the body with poly mounts. Any issue?

No, that's what will make it much less likely to crack. Energy takes the path of least resistance... which means flexing at the bushings, not where the cage is tied to the body.

The only thing different I would have done would be stagger the stitch welds one side to the other. Instead of having the stitch back to back like they are.

Sure is Tom. Put it about 5 hrs today. Will do the same over the holiday weekend. Get her nice and ready fr Baja. And yes, mom was inspecting work. Brought memories of my dad back. We had a great laugh together.

Well I guess all that's left is.. what's the next truck you're going to build? You're Bronco is really close to being perfect.

I think he's going for Mastercrafts Agui. They'll just add to the coolness for sure!

I've driven on those type of seats before on the way to Pismo from L.A. and after about two hours they started feeling uncomfortable. They are bad ass off road since you don't move around as much as on a stock seat and they're easy to get in and out of too. Even though I know they're not as comfortable as I'd like them to be, those are the next suspension seats I'm getting.

Auggie, did you ride on those in the XJ? Reason I ask is because those are baja RS. The Baja XD is 1"wider, and has a little different design. It is built specifically for the Ford Super Duty, but I have never had the chance to creep into one to check it out.

I had the Baja RS (the thinner one) in my XJ, and I agree, it lacked a little back support on a long drive. I also can not stand the tweed, makes me sweat! haha

It was in a Super Duty and yeah... the back support was the issue I had as well. Around town they're awesome.. its when you make a long trip (Baja) that they start tiring you out. I wonder if Mastercraft has addressed this issue for the newer seats. I'd still get them though and if they have addressed this issue then they should be awesome.

Seats is the next item. We'll see how quickly we can do that.
