Re: 1997 f250 prerunner build
blew a head gasket about a month ago.
I had the heads ported, put a extreme 4x4 comp cam in, new water pump, plugs, wires, EGR delete, smog pump delete, long tube headers.
took out core support, and relocating radiator to rear with electric fan from 3.8 taurus.
engine going back together

Re: 1997 f250 prerunner build
Bed-mounted radiator... that takes me back. Mine worked OK but I had a larger radiator, dual fans and I put a scoop under the truck.
Had I to do it over, I wouldn't.

The airflow on that thing at speed is probably not the greatest.... especially with a complete bed floor.
Out of curiosity, what made you move it there?

Olathe,ks, fish out of water for sure.
moved it for several reasons, mainly practice for my other truck. also the core support was totally rusted out along the bottom 1", and a new one was $200 and i didn't spend not half that doing it this way instead. finally i think it looks cool, and thats about the only reason i need.
as far as not working well, if it doesn't (just like everything else i have completly built and designed by myself without another truck like it within 1000 miles of me) i will figure out a better way to do it.
new front support.

60 acres to build a house and shop on. Also, there are more machinist jobs in KC than in SD and they pay the same or better.

Change the fuel tank while it's out if it's even close to needing one.BDKW1 wrote:Will be there for thanksgiving rebuilding a bobcat motor......

So this is where babies come from! LOL
Seriously though, this is cool. Cannot wait to see the new cooling system setup.

Coming along nicely Jimmy. This truck really gives me examples and inspiration for mine. I'm in the same boat you are too, not a truck like us with in 1000miles, and no one knows what they are, or what they do.
Look for some of you're ideas on my nite edition... hopefully.

Re: 1997 f250 prerunner build
don't forget, i have built and designed (with drawings) every suspension piece on my truck. actually i have a set of shock hoops already bent up and ready to go, just need to make the engine x-member. so if you need any of these parts let me know.Joxracing wrote:Coming along nicely Jimmy. as far as cooling goes, it seems like it was working pretty well. however, i definetly need dual fan with a shroud because it would slowly start creeping up, and i wasn't doing anything too hard with it. and then, like a dummy, i put the 5.0 (that i am going to build as a race engine for my 2000 f150), into the bed, and it rolled, barely bumping into the radiator. it didn't damage the actual radiator, but the plastic mounting tabs cracked slightly, letting a small amount of coolant start to leak. so it will be out of commision for a few weeks until i buy a new radiator. let you guys know more then.
thanks for the good words guys. i will be starting a new thread soon on the front end build for my 2000 f150. I just got my shipment of 100' , 2''/ .120 wall DOM. And also, like I said before, my J/Y 5.0. I also ordered a Miller XMT 350, MPA package, for my fabrication business.

Re: 1997 f250 prerunner build
i bought a raptor, my F250 would wreck it off road though.... might start parting the F250 out.... at least, the tire carrier, bumpers, and light bar. maybe suspension we'll see. way to busy to do anything with it.

Re: 1997 f250 prerunner build
how much would you want for the lightbar, rear bumper, and tire carrier?
That all should bolt up to my 89.
oh, what do you have for rear suspension parts?
