NavyNukes 82 Build

Post by navynuke »

Picked up a bone Stock 82 Bronco.

Image

Had a few dumb prior owner things that needed fixing, electric fuel pump on the valve cover, terrible mud tires, a few other things like that.

fresh tires, fixed a few problems from the prior owner and a couple of HID's on the stock bumpers, and she was ready to start being used and abused.

Image

Image

Then I bought a couple of bumpers off a parts truck in town

Image

Image

Image

then decided I wanted the whole truck, and went to buy the entire truck

Image

Pulled the 4" ranch lift, both axles with 4.10 gears and ARB lockers out of the parts truck

Image

Image

ARB switch panel I made up

Image

then she needed some tires, the 31s looked a bit out of place

Image

so on go some Cooper 35 STTs

Better for playing around, I do a bit of everything with the bronco

Image

Image

Image

Then I took the next step towards making it safer

I had a full cage put in, 1 3/4 120 wall tubing tied to the frame

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then while completely gutted I decided to paint her, as the factory brown was flaking off and being replaced by rust of the same color.

Image

Image

Image

Then Philo sold me some Camburg Coil Buckets, as well as SAW 2.5 race runner shocks

Image

made a few changes to my front bumper to incorporate the new 7" HID's

Image

Image

Image

Need to get some limit straps, then start thinking about the next step. I have some a motor to start rebuilding too, as the 200k mile 302 thats in the bronco is getting a bit tired.

Whats next was supposed to be a motor that I started pulling apart.

but I tried my hand at some rock crawling, and broke a few things.

tie rod
Image

stripped out a warn hub

Image

and broke a couple of teeth out of the spider gears in the ARB unit in the 8.8

Image

Image

So faced with deciding if I want to replace the ARB in the 8.8, or put gears and a detroit into the 9 inch axle that started under my truck.

I'm leaning towards the 9 inch, but open to suggestions.

I still have the stock grill, but its broken, the brush guard twisted back into it. I also have the trim from around the grill.

What trim are you looking for, I may have it, although most of the interior trim is back in the truck.

I need a stock grill and I want to send a piece of the grill surround and exterior fender trim to powder coat as a test.

I still have all of the trim, some of it is straight, some is not, but if you want it, come and pick it up. Since I don't need it anymore. Can you get price breaks on gear sets? maybe work out a trade since I'll be ordering gears and a yukon grizzly locker for the 9" rearend in the next week or two.

Summit is cheaper than anyone can compete with. I usually buy what I can from there.

Parts should be here today, got them through a local offroad shop I deal with here in town. He is helping me with enough stuff off and on, I'll pay him more for all the stuff he helps me with and doesn't charge me for.

started install today, all was going well, except the locating stud on the driver side leaf spring looks a bit worse for wear

I've broke a few of those. Not too bad to replace though. Could be worse. You couldve had your leafsprings come off and snap a drive line like I did.
I'm just here for the views. It helps me feel wanted.

Back on the road. a bit of clicking or popping around corners, I believe its the yukon grizzly locker, as straight line is fine. I will be rechecking everything when I get home from class.

picked up some motor parts for the new motor I'm building,
  • new Gt40P heads
  • BBK shorty ceramic coated headers
  • high volume oil pump
Hoping to be able to leave tomorrow afternoon for KOH too.

After beating on this thing out at the King of the Hammers race, the yukon grizzly locker is working pretty well. acted up a little on a downhill curvy road coming home from the dump yesterday.

Adding mounts for my fire extinguisher and flashlights this week, as well as hopefully getting the wiring and control surface for my winch built up this week before going to the Battle for Primm this weekend.

Looks like I'm picking up some rear shocks for the bronco. Pair of fox 2.5" reservoir with 12 inch travel.

I know the valving is wrong, and I will need one of the upper mount setups for them.

What valving do you guys recommend, weight is about 5200 pounds empty, and superlift 4" lift springs.

Also what shock mount setups do you guys recommend, or should I put my own together?

Thanks guys

Ken

Fox are the longest shocks out there. You may have issues fitting 12" under the bed with those.

and they are probably not ideal for use if you go through the floor and up to the cage then.

I am open to suggestions then, the price on these was good, but if they will probably not work I'll pass on them.

and they are King, not Fox, makes em a little shorter.
