No it's still there but I did yank the tubes that feed both side window defrosters and sanded off the flanges the hoses plugged into in the inside corners of the dash cap as well. There's a bunch of crap you will need to sand off. Just try to get the crossbar absolutely as flush as possible curve and all to the front window defrost ports just below the row where the mounting screws are.steve-oh wrote:did you lose defrost with the bar behind the dash?

On Smart Alex build, we trimmed the dash vents and then sealed back up with foil ducting tape. It allowed us to keep all the ducting and the tape just contoured to the crossbar during final install. We pulled and looked and it didnt rip, just contoured.

Re: RMC's el hefe build.
That works well. You can also buy new hose/ducting from AC type places & make your own runs around the cage work. Might take a little bit of work/fab for where it connects to the vents, etc. as the aftermarket stuff is typically round, but it can work well.

Looks good. You are inspiring me to work on mine so bad. I have to get my Bronco back from my mom's house were I took it to avoid the parking police. I had it covered but I took all the fiberglass off to keep it in good shape while the Bronco was being worked on. The meter maid said it was considered a junk car and had to be removed from the property or it would be towed. It had a car cover and looked just like any other car out there but she lifted up the cover and saw the fiberglass off. Total BS!!!
How do you plan to mount the seats?

Re: RMC's el hefe build.
Well my plan is the 2 bars at the bottom of the doors will have 2 straight bars side to side with seat tabs stuck to them, on possibly both the front and rear front seat cross bars ill add floor tabs to further strengthen the structure that re-use the old stock seat mount holes to the body.Wrightracing.net wrote:Looks good. Attached to that rear crossbar there will be 2 sweeping bent bars the will attach to the rear shock cross bar, between these 2 the rear seat cross bars will be added agian re-using the pre-exsisting seat mount bolt holes to give strength. I assure you guys the seats, cab and cage will be solid as possible. I'm not a fan of being thrown about like a rag doll. Last time it happened.... Yes I said last time

Re: RMC's el hefe build.
I know how you feel. I have been in a couple roll overs. Only 2 out of 6 times I was driving. Worst was in a Class 4 F150 in a Fud race many years ago out at Plaster City. I have no idea how many times we went over, but cracked my helmet on the cage and fractured my arm on a door bar. We rolled off a wash wall on the back side of Superstition after blowing a turn. Not my falt, I told the driver the turn was coming. No Gps back then but rallye style trip log on a roller sheet.
On my Bronco I am cutting out the floor do to so many cracks and doing something like Chris and Glen's EL race Bronco. My Bronco is an 86 with over 300,000 miles on it and around 90K - 100k in the dirt. I want to integrate the cross bars into new floor plates and use a tube style slider seat adjuster on the drivers side. Passanger side and rear bench fixer. I also want to get the seats as low to the floor as possible yet be adjustable on the driver seat. I did not like the height it was with the Mastercraft slider I had before.

Would not matter Here in The Socialist State of San Diego. If it even had a flat tire in my own private driveway, they can tow it. It all depends on the meter maid and her mood. My Bronco is in the city of Imperial Beach where as long as it is covered, it's ok.
Soon it's going in my garage to get some work done. Finally. ..

Re: RMC's el hefe build.
So I threw the bench in the back... It looks great. I'm not really feeling the front seats though. I'm thinking I need a jeep style suspension seat. The beards are super narrow and would be far from passenger friendly. With out the recliner it may also pose a uncompfortable knee senerio for the rear passengers too.
I'm also rethinking the rear seat brackets a bit too. I'm thinking a hoop on that rear floor bar would make life easier for bolting up the front tabs.
