none of the ones I've ridden in have bothered me at all, and my brother's has a decent exhaust on it. Then again look what I'm comparing it too... The tacoma is BAD in that aspect, as have been all of my trucks. I've never really gone for the "quiet and comfy" aspect in cars. Then again, I do have a kid now and I am getting older...

They are tons of fun to drive, handle awesome.... but I am use to a thunk when I close the door, from the european cars I am used to driving. The Subi was more like a tink.......

I dig the looks of the is350. Never driven one though or even ridden in one. Then again, with the kid now I don't think I will.

As for the door thunk vs. tink. The tacoma is a tink - since it's a tin can jap. car too. So I'll be fine.

If I want a THUNK, crap, it didn't close, open it back up & try again - I'll go to the crew cab & open it's door.
Which reminds me. I need to put the new doors on it & adjust them.

I was looking at subi's as well. But between the subi's and the audi's I was looking at. I had to go with what I know. I've had really good luck with audi in the past so it kinda swayed my decision.

I have a 97 Toyota Avalon, and a 98 Explorer.

The Avalon is my wife's car, it's honestly a great vehicle. Great mpg's, power, and smooth riding.

My Explorer is a 4.0 2wd with 95,000 miles, I dig it, but I like to flip cars. It's for sale!

I'm thinking about picking up an early 00's Deville, call them either Grandpa, or gangster, but I like them.

And that's a good thing. A lot of people have a hard time understanding that the vast majority of used cars need and easy $1,000 to $2,000 in maintenance.. Few sellers are going to catch a car up on all its maintenance then turn around and sell it.

Avalons are fantastic cars. The Explorers are good cars, too. They don't get great mileage but it's not bad. They are certainly affordable. Even with catching my 92 up on pretty much anything it needs, I'll have less than $3,000 into it and I'm not afraid to drive it anywhere... damn cheap for good transportation if you ask me.

Early 00's Deville... nothing wrong with that. Good fuel economy, tons of power and super comfy. They leak and burn oil like crazy but it doesn't affect driveability. Just keep it full. It's a good thing they have 8 quart oil systems.

Another good option for those that don't have to have the latest, greatest is older Lexus sedans (or two-doors for that matter). Buy the car for a few thousand, spend two or three repairing it and catching it up on maintenance and you'll have a super nice car that will give you years of great service for little investment. I really like their rear wheel drive offerings.

I have been looking at getting a bobbed one to keep out at our desert property. I am looking to a 1971 2.5 ton one so I can register it as a Historical vehicle and then I won't need a Commercial license to drive it on the street. Also the registration fee is really low and no weight fee like my F350, which is $400 a year.

Article today on Yahoo ...
The top 10 high quality, low-cost used cars thru a mechanics eyes...
http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/ ... 11682.html

Saturn L200: Do you know what this is? Neither do the majority of Americans. The L-Series was a one-generation wonder that never caught on. In our study the four cylinder automatic models are proving to be more reliable than their Honda Accord peers, and still offer a steep discount in the retail car market.

Ford Crown Victoria: The Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis are based on the same platform. For those just looking for a beater, and don't drive very much, the price of a government issued Crown Vic is the cheapest durable buy you can find on a pound-per-pound basis. Government surplus auction models that haven't seen police duty are tough to beat.

Buick Park Avenue: In our study we're finding that the vehicle kept for the longest time is not Lexus or Mercedes-Benz. It's Buick. The Park Avenue benefits from an outstanding powertrain — the GM 3.8-liter V-6 built for decades — in non-supercharged models, and a mature clientele that's usually willing to invest in a car's proper maintenance.

Buick Lucerne: Another one generation wonder, the Buick Lucerne replaced the Park Avenue and older models brought forward the 3.8 liter V-6 engine found in the Park Avenue.

Chevrolet Corvette: The Corvette benefits from long model runs, a robust V8 engine that can comfortably cruise at extremely low rpm's, and an enthusiast base that usually takes pride in keeping these sports cars in sound mechanical shape.

Chevrolet Prizm: Also known as the Geo Prizm, these cars are mechanically identical to the Toyota Corolla which is currently the best selling car in the world. Prizms often sell for cheaper prices than the Corolla, even though both cars were built in the same factory for well over two decades.

Pontiac Vibe: After the Prizm was discontinued, Toyota and GM decided to continue their joint venture with the Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix. The Vibe is usually priced cheaper than the Matrix due to GM folding the Pontiac division in 2009.

Jeep Cherokee: The Cherokee remained popular throughout its entire model run. The 4-liter "High Output" 190-hp straight-six engine used almost exclusively from 1991 through 2001 has proven to be exceptionally durable.

BMW Z4: Although the Z4 was priced at a $15,000 to $20,000 premium over the Mazda MX-5 Miata when new, as an older used vehicle, it usually only commands a couple thousand more dollars while offering a comparable level of reliability. For those who are looking for a roadster that isn't a Miata, the Z4 definitely deserves a look.

Infiniti M35: The styling of the M35 never caught on and this carried forward to their resale values. The M35 is usually anywhere between $6,000 to $8,000 less than the Lexus GS, Audi A6 and the Mercedes E-Class, while offering long-term reliability that matches or eclipses all of these models.
