Smog issues, air pump?

Post by Bcaman »

So I recently bought a 96 bronco with a 5.8l and E4OD trans with jba headers with the egr, stock cats and Y pipe with a flowmaster muffler.. Only thing keeping me from passing smog is that my broncos supposed to have an air pump suposedly? I've researched a little and found that some came with it and some didn't and that if it was removed, a check engine light would come on?? Any help would be great cause is rather not dump a bunch of money into stock parts to pass a star certified smog...

A little info to help us would be your location.... in case someone lives near you with a 96 you could look at.... and maybe pics of the engine bay?

You could call Ford Dealer and ask to run your VIN and see if it had a air pump from the beginning?

Located in Thousand Oaks, ca. Il give the dealership a call.. Il try and get some pics of the engine bay up.. The pully where the air pump is supposed to be is a cast OE ford pully mount..

Something similar happened to me with my 1996 f250 non air injection, the smog shop could not find a non-air injection 1996 in the ford book......I was missing the factor sticker on the hood that match the VIN to say this f250 did not come with air injection. Andy is right call ford and have them run the vin to tell you if your bronco had it or not and for 16 bucks you can get a new sticker for the hood if yours is missing. Ford will also send a certified letter you can give to the smog shop.

Does your bronco have a sticker on the inside / bottom of the hood?

No, I called ford and they're going to get me an emissions label that says I didn't have an air pump.. I bought my bronco around a month ago and if has a fiberglass hop so it doesn't have any of the sticker that are supposed to be on it..

that is exactly what I did on my f250... new hood and you just don't know until you find out you have a rare motor set up..... it is a problem......hah

no air pump could be a good option to have. I know my MAF 460 non air injection was.

Ok before you add the sticker make sure it says what you want it to.......just saying

Yea I'm pretty stoked my 351 doesn't have an air pump, just another useless component to make the tree huggers happy.. Il double check it, they said it could take a while to get tho which sucks but I don't really have a choice do I?
