I'm getting ready to do an electric fan swap but I have a question about the radiator temperature fan switch.
Is there a plug on the block or heads that is a specific spot for the switch?
Is the normal thing to do, just to use the switch from a 5.0 thunderbird?
what did any of you do?
thanks

Re: question on electric fan swap
Closest to the thermostat housing is gonna be the best spot. Most manifolds will have a plug nearby.
You may want to pick up an adjustable fan controller to run it, so that it comes on when you hit the AC. Derale part # 16749 is a basic controller. This way you can adjust what temp you want it to come on. There is also 2 high amp controllers if the fans you are using have a high amp draw.
16779 & 16789.

Re: question on electric fan swap
A lot of guys run the 2 speed Taurus fans. My opinion though, is unless you need one, dont run one.

Re: question on electric fan swap
The Volvo fans are the same motors as the Taurus fans. But are way easier to mount and wire with supplied relays!

Re: question on electric fan swap
i'll take pics and give a little write up once I install it, but I'm using a 2 speed 16" fan with a 17.5"x21.5" shroud from a pt cruiser non-turbo. Dorman 620-022
the adj. fan switch controller would work great but in my case, I'm doing this as cheap as possible.
After more research I'm going to use a 185on-170off switch in the lower hose.
I don't think putting the fan switch near the thermostat housing would be the best spot because either the fan would come on when the thermostat opens and radiator is cold, or if set at a higher temperature it won't come on until the entire radiator and engine is hot. Although I'm sure there's a small median that would work 'ok' but I also think that median would change as the outside temperature does. Most engines I see have them in the radiator or near/in the cylinder heads.
I found the plugs on the block, they're down on the side of the block, left and right side, too close to the oil in the pan and not close enough to the cylinder heads for me.
I looked up those volvo relays too, those are tits, less wiring. I'll have to see if I can pick one up from the junkyard.

At least with a hose style sensor you will have the option to move it to the top hose, if the Bronco runs to hot measuring the bottom hose temp.
You may want to wire the low circuit into your AC switch. Hopefully the relay your picking up has 2 circuits.
Sound like it should work out fine.
