Pulling Bedsides??

Post by Vintage Iron Fab »

Can bedsides be pulled like on the Rangers-- I am thinking that the F150s can be pulled I would guess the broncos can be as well.

Yes they can, you do it the same way cut the internal supports and use sandbags and a scissor jack to spread the fender then weld a new support in t maintain the new shape.

The problem I would see with pulling the bronco bedsides is the fact that they are a bit shorter than F-150 meaning either you're not going to get as much flare or you run a greater risk of kinking the bedsides trying to get them to move.

Go slow and be careful!

Push the sides out until you see a wrinkle then back off slightly. That is the best you can do. This will give the extra room for 12.5" tire on a van axle when using the stock alloy wheels.

Paul just a couple questions on this really old thread. When you pull them how many inches realistically can you bulge the bedsides? Also how many inches wider is the E150 rear end versus the FSB? What year E150 did you use or will work? Any chance the E150 has Torino axle ends?On the FSB what width beam do you pair the E150 rear end with? Is the E150 a bolt-on swap or do the perches need moving?

The bedside pull just seem like a great cheap and very effective mod.

Thanks!

You can only get about 1"-1.5" on each side before it looks funny. Maybe a little more if you slash cut behind the wheel well, which usually does not look good on Broncos like it does on trucks.

Van axles are 3" wider so 68" from flange to flange. Early 80s vans are the ones. The van axles I have seen are light duty so they have small ends on them. The perch needs to be changed for correct pinion angle. If I remember right the spring width is slightly wider on a Van.

Hmm, I replied , but the message is missing. Anyway, Philofab gave you in essence what I typed.
Be picky on the axle you choose. and expect to change the ends and truss the thing.
