Re: New Hood from Autofab
Just peeped this hood out.the truck is sitting in my front yard, so I took a good look at it. I think my Bronco will be getting the Mc Queen Treatment. He's making quarter panels for the bronco, that match the front glass as well.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
Just to give a bit more backup on the price for the 'fab hood. Coming from a guy who has paid to have plugs & molds made before (I own 2 molds - 1 for ranger fenders & 1 for 70's trucks) it is NOT cheap. I even got the "good guy" deal and it's a kick in the wallet for sure. I have to sell 20 sets of my 70's fenders to break even on just the plug/mold making costs, and that's with my fenders at $550, which is a little bit less than John's. I'm also having mine laid up at "good guy price" (US made with fitment on par if not better than John's) so that helps keep costs down, but it's still not that low & that's pretty much $100 over what I get them laid up for. Reality of it is lots of people say they want the product, but few actually shell out the coin. You either price it a bit higher to make it worth making a quality part & people who get that it's a quality part will pay for it, or you take FOREVER to start actually making $$ on a product.
Or you're an idiot like me & thought people who said they would want to buy them would & spent a crap load of $$ to not even break even. Personally I won't go back down that road again. John at least has a "following" and a business platform where people come to look for products. Sometimes expensive ones, but always well made ones.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
I actually was thinking of making my own mold and hood, also my own dash due to me not liking the generic one size fits all in the dash's that are out there. I was thinking of the dash stuff to better hold the stock guage cluster of these older models. I don't really have the time to dedicate yet. Maybe ill get motivated when I tear into mine.i doubt it but you never know.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
any updates on the autofab hood? is that something they would post on their website when it was done, or is calling and asking better? Have not worked with autofab before.
Really like that hood

When I first posted this, they were still working on getting the plug perfected...not sure what the status is now. Call em up and ask!

Re: New Hood from Autofab
I like both McQueen and Johns hoods. I like John's a little better for my taste because it is a little closer to a oem look.
McQueen does do some nice work but the really wide front end to cover 37" tire is a little strange where the transition to the lites and the doors. I know the issue with how wide everything is but I personally would like a more gradual transition so the body flows better. Maybe a door skin like some do on the rear of the 4 door explorers to transition between the door and the fender.
Ok, now a technical question when it comes to the hood vents. Is it better to have the vents draw cool air down into the engine compartment or facing rearward to pull hot air out of the engine compartment? I am more of a function over form, so I want to do the vents because of how hot under the hood gets. I have seen so many of the old Bronco's like my 86 with paint pealing in the center of the hood due to it getting really hot.
I was thinking of putting these in my hood. Can't beat the Price at $40.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
The location of the vents and the overall makeup of the vehicle dictate which direction the air flows, not the shape of vents.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
Not going to comment on either hood, thats a matter of taste. But getting air out of the hood is more important. Drive your truck without the hood latched and see how long it lasts. It will leave the truck at 35+ mph. I know, ive done it, my early model bronco hood did it on my friends 73. Man was he upset, we fixed it though. Our hood lowered the temp one hash mark on the temp guage.
There is a lot of pressure under the hood.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
Ya, I cracked the windshield when I forgot to put the hood pins back in and that was a metal hood.
I have been looking at the 68 Mustang GT 350 hoods and I would like the ram air near the leading edge of the hood to feed cold air to the air cleaner and vents above the headers near the rear of the hood to pull heat out. For me it is more for function than form.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
This is what I was thinking. This hood is for a 97. Does anyone make one like this for a 92-96 bronco. This is around $450 on Ebay.

Re: New Hood from Autofab
Thanks Robert. Close to what I want but at 800 -900 with shipping is to much. And it would still not be exactly what I want. I want the air intake to be a little lower and wider. Then it still needs vents in the rear. I may get a oem fiberglass one and make my own. I use to work lay fiberglass making holding tank and set props. Used a chopper gun to. This was right out of high school, so it has been awhile.
I want to do a custom air box that the intake on the hood feeds air to.
Not a high priority.
