It flexes. You should use angle iron.

Can't use angle iron....... The mounts on the seat are flat. So the seat sits flat on the rails, but the holes don't line up. The seat base itself has flat iron welded to that base, and that sits on the rails if that makes sense...... I Was planning on using some 3/16" stuff...... Isnt strong enough?

It might be but id weld it to the stock frame. You never realise what a seat goes through specially in a collision god forbid.

I think he is thinking that your seats mount in the traditional way with 4 tabs and horizontal bolts. I dont think the material you are welding to is going to even be 3/16, that's more than enough for you're doing.

Gotcha Travis....

Nope, these seats are completely flat bottomed, and the bolts go vertical, just like the stock bolts to the stock seats.

Flat iron will work fine for what you're using it for, it'll likely be stronger than your factory seats. Your stock sliders / brackets will be the next thing to fail.

my thought is it depends on how much wider, over the side of the slider that the flat iron goes. If it's only an 1" per side (you said 2" - so not sure if that was per side) I'd run it.

If it's 2" per side I'd go angle iron upside down, and possibly with the vertical run of the stuff trimmed so as not to stick down far (think 2" x 1/2"-3/4" angle). That or a piece of mild that is bent at a 90. The bend/3rd dimension added to the thing will rigidify it.

Is about 5/8" per side at most Steve......... and it is interesting it sits offset to the driver door if I center it. by maybe 1/2". If I used the stock holes on the mastercraft on the outside rail, then the inside rail needs to have a set of holes approx 1 1/8" further in. So I am leaning towards the mounting on the seat directly on the rail closest to the door, and then using the flat iron on the side of the seat closest to the center console to get it to line up all right. I will need a washer on the side closest to the door to make sure it is level.

Other than that, I should be fine. The seat is everything I was hoping, easy to get in and out, color is nice ( alittle lighter than the seats, but no big deal once I add the second, and most likely eventually a bench.

Im stoked.... appreciate all the advice on the mounting.

Yeah - stock seat sliders are often offset on the seat, which means if you just take the sliders out of the truck & fab a mount that is centered, then put the seats back in they will sit off center of the steering wheel. Found this one out the hard way early on.

But yeah, sounds like you've got it covered. Washers to space the thing are normal as well. I typically look for a thicker (about .125") fender washer for a 3/8" - 7/16" bolt & use those. The thickness works well & the O.D. of the thing is bigger so there's more surface area contacting the slider & mounting plate.

I've considered doing a fixed mount to do away with the sliders on my Bronco just so I don't have to worry about a wobbly seat mount since they need to be big boy friendly. The only problem I see is how to pull it off without caging the truck.

Tony, I'd highly recommend adding in a cross support of 3/16 from one slider to the other so that you don't rely on the factory one to hold it all together. I broke one after hitting some large rollers at Glamis and my rear shocks where blown out so when the rear end hit a big one, it kicked up while the front stayed down which made me come up and out of the seat on the way down at which point the cross brace failed.. it was still fairly sturdy but I started getting a little side to side motion while going through the dunes and then all of a sudden I was driving up a dune at a slight angle when my seat slid back to the super tall man position and I had to really stretch to reach the pedals. Luckily I was able to back down the dune face at an angle and zip tie the seat locks to get out of the dunes.

Hey T,
I ended up reinforcing all of my seat mounts and then made a frame to mount the seats to. I wanted a structurally sound base to mount the seats to. I wasn't comfortable sitting the seats on the original floor pan. Thus far, it's worked out very well... I've been using it for about 10-years now. Still tight as the day I built it. Don't know if you want to go to those lengths, but thought I'd throw it out there for consideration.

Any pics Tom...... Likely wont go that route immediately, but maybe long term.

Small update, I bout flat iron yesterday, and got the seat in,mouth the exception if buying some bolts that were a tiny bit too short, so need to run to grab some longer ones, and then go from there. Pics this weekend

I don't think I have any... but I'll look through the archive. It's a pain to pull apart just for pics... plus, it's all carpeted now. So, next time you're down, I'll show you how I did it.

Ok, I lied... I do have a pic... but it doesn't show the reinforcement in the floor that I did (just the bitchin carpet)... just the subframe. The tabs you see are the seat mounts that have the sliders integrated... I used the MasterCraft sliders... they were pretty cheap. I think they were $75.

Doesn't John make a pre-fabbed seat mount like that, Tom?

Ya know, that's an excellent question... don't know... but I can find out. I'm heading over there today and I'll ask him.
