Stock injectors are 19lb, even on 351s. 19lbs is marginal for even for 270 hp. 24lbs is good until around 350 hp I think.Rmc wrote:U may also have to swap from 25 to 27 lb injectors also. There's a lot of info on this on the ford truck enthusiast, and mustang forums. The standard swap stuff for my 5.0 is gt40p heads, 27lb injectors, intake swap to trickflo or edlebrock, power pullies minus the alternator one, ac delete and upgrade to an electric radiator fan. All this without messing with the block. Supposedly just under 370hp but I have no idea really. I've been reading about 400+ hp 351 builds for as cheap as possible, I've found one for 1100$ and one for 1300$ but no way in hell it will pass emitions.

Sounds about right, I can't remember all that stuff I bookmark everything.Phoenix0783 wrote:Stock injectors are 19lb, even on 351s. 19lbs is marginal for even for 270 hp. 24lbs is good until around 350 hp I think.Rmc wrote:U may also have to swap from 25 to 27 lb injectors also. Re: stock stroker... possible?
Speed density will not work for what you wanna do. Keep the stock displacement and use the money towards maniflod and heads. There are a few sd cams out there but ive heard good things about Mustang cams witch if you look enough you can find free

Re: stock stroker... possible?
Oh something else... You'll have to calculate cfm's by displacement to get the appropriate throttle body also. Just remembered. So which one of u wanna do it first?

I don't see why you couldn't build a 347 and run a 351 eec?

251 speed density dont like cam shafts at all. Your cam profile would be too much for the ecu to accomidate.

Re: stock stroker... possible?
U could build a 347 but why? U spend big$ to equal a 351w. Mind as well do a complete engine swap to start at the equivilant displacement( 347 to 351). At that starting point u still have to get the same heads, cam, intake, headers, throttle body, injectors ect. The only diff would be stock computer ( preferably maf). 250$ for a turnkey junkyard special, possibly 450 on a bad day. The 347 is a non smogable motor cause it burns oil. 331 has no oil issue, if u want bigger start with a 351w. From 351 with just the same upgrades you'll be over 400hp. Still smogable I think with all sensors working. The real reason I say all this is I bought all the shit to make a peppy 5.0 just to find out there's no chance of passing the sniffer unless I buy the coast high perf. C.a.r.b. legal 347. For the same price I could buy there 408.

Re: stock stroker... possible?
Here's my big plan for the same result.. 351w, modify my world 200 heads for the larger head studs of the 351w, the cam, harmonic balancer, msd billet distributor, flywheel, short block, and pushrods needs to be sold, the rockers, headers, msd box,are the same, at that point I'm still looking at the same intake, plenum, tb, injectors, price. Plus ill need a 351 cam, a stock computer, machine work, stroker kit, retrofit Hall effect sensor to modify stock distributor( petronix)
So less $ on distributor, displacement gain ect. U don't have to stroke it to get to the same point is all I'm saying.
All this can be done for about 11 to 2000$ ( non stroker) and with a local shop to machine the block and u to assemble it, your in a stroker for around 1000 to 2000 more. The biggest issue all us california peeps face is Mary Nichols n her gustapo carb possy.

There's build lists like this I've found, but we still gotta get back to the needed components: maf ( less complications) injector size, tb size, intake and plenum, and finally distributor.
Logistically it would be less hastle to buy a different bronco ( complete 351w maf) 95 or 96, do all the bolt on mods n see if its enough, if not stroke it n change your injectors and tb. Swap all your goodies from your nice bronco. Did I mention the half off sales comming up at the junk yards?

Re: stock stroker... possible?
The difference is the 351 isn't a striker and won't have nearly the torque.

Re: stock stroker... possible?
I don't know why everyone seems to think an unimpressive 5.8L is somehow better than a 331 or 347 stroker. I don't think modern 347's even burn oil anymore.
A Mustang 5.0 HO motor can pump out plenty of power with minimal mods because they don't have dished pistons like the 5.8L do. They already produce more horsepower than a 5.8L and the torque is just slightly bellow what the 5.8L offered but way above what the truck 5.0L offers. I have no doubt a built 331 will outrun a 351 easily even though it displaces less. The think to keep in mind is that if you already have a 5.0L Bronco, why even bother trying to do an engine swap to a 351 if you know it's not going to pass visual. You don't have to tell anyone you've got a stroker crank if you keep the 5.0L.
Gunit's Bronco seems to kick ass just fine and he's got a 331 if I remember correctly.

Do smog guys recognize the head differences? Mine are cast iron I figure a few wheelin adventures a few washes n they'll be rusty as oem. Might pass the visual?

Re: stock stroker... possible?
I don't think they even look at the heads, my mark7 had a blower, full c&l intake, fpr, all kinds of go fast stuff and he was crying that he couldn't see the carb number on the headers... the car came stock with headers!

Depends on how much you have done to your Bronco...
Anyone on the board done a MAF swap? Is it something totally obvious to the smog folks?

Re: stock stroker... possible?
I think most smog guys wouldn't recognise a maf & computer swap, I think they eyeball obvious things (shiny parts). When I said logistically I was referring to a by the book conversion including special construction and chp inspection and vin reregistration stuff. Also when we talk mustangs we need to be clear on what 351 were comparing to a 5.0. The 351m ( or 351 modified) platform has the least amount of aftermarket goodies, a 351w ( Windsor family) is what were talking about here, the 351w non stroked can have the pistons swapped for non dish. I still say 331 stroker max on 5.0 and 351w as a starting platform for all things larger. Ill call a few engine builder buddies n get there 2 cents.
