We started to put together a Bishop run last year and happy to try again? Great campground near Bishop and hotels, fishing, good go-fast roads and some high altitiude scenery. How about it Yikes?

I know I was catching trout in Virginia Lakes in late July to mid August a few years ago, so it may go a bit longer Nick. LOOOOOOVED that area when I was up there!

"Fishmas" as the local businesses call it up here is the last Saturday of April.
However, you can fish year round on the Owens River and at Pleasant Valley Reservoir just north of Bishop.
High altitude snow pack usually keeps us out of the high country until June, but who knows this year the way the weather is going.

I usually head up to bishop yearly withy the family for fishing. Usually later in the year like June/July when it isn't so cold. Hot down in bishop but freezing up in the mountains. There is a place up there called treasure lakes that is like a 2 hour hike. That's where they have the rare golden trout!!

What's the hike like? OK for small kids? How hot? Hot camping sucks!

Well let's revive! I want to get this rolling. Maybe we could do a couple trips this year.

How about a weekend in June that doesn't conflict with races?
With the lack of snow this year, shouldn't be a problem getting anywhere.
I'll set up runs for Friday and Saturday, leaving Sunday open.
Friday, wheeling up to 11,000 feet in the Sierras on Wheeler Crest and Saturday some higher speed roads in the White Mtns across the Owens valley to the East.

Yes. I want to take the family to Bodie one day. A true ghost town. It's awesome. The Devil's Postpile has lots of hiking trails and awesome scenery. Mammoth is always fun. Rent bikes. We can do some downhilling!! Woohoooo! Rent boats and fish at June Lake.

One day as in some day before you die or one day during this proposed trip? Are these places accessible by minivan? 'Cause I ain't fueling the Bronco for 10-12 hours of pavement pounding. Also, how about an address or coordinates to a proposed campground? I need to see how long of a drive this is gonna be.

Lastly, I'm good with planning something for the summer but that's going to be a pain in the ass to coordinate. most of us are at the point in our lives where our summers are BLOWN UP! Have you guys ever tried to plan anything with Ollie in the summer? Impossible!

One day as in during this trip. Visited one time a few years back, but only spent an hour or so and didn't take the tour to the mine. Really want to take the kids back.

Everything I mentioned is accessible by minivan. There's campsites all over in that neck of the woods. You would love camping at the Postpile. Dry camping with restrooms. Natural hot spring showers are awesome!

Here's a link to the nicest campground thats also close to Bishop. Has a nice creek through it and nice lawn thruout for tent camping. Laundry, showers, ice. I can book a block of spaces, but need to know soon if want full hookups.

Thanks Yikes for chiming in about all there is to do in and around Bishop. Good fishing at the lakes up Bishop Creek, so no need to drive to Mammoth. Google Laws Museum for a Big railroad museum at the old depot that is way cool family adventure.
First weekend of June is the Baja 500. Any other key events in June we want to avoid conflicting with? Throw out some dates and we'll get this going! With the 4th of July midweek this year, let's not do the weekend just before it: 6/28-30, and that leaves the weekends of the 8th, 15th and 22nd. Looking forward to showing you folks some great country!

Oh man I really want to do this. LOVE it up there & have always wanted to do Bodie. I really hope we are free whatever weekend this ends up being!

Unfortunately, Bodie is over two hours drive time north from Bishop so it will be a day just by itself. Definitely belongs on every bucket list, but perhaps for another trip or when headed to Reno?
