1995 Bronco - Slow lowbudget Gofast Project

Post by rushcanuck »

This is my 1995 Ford Bronco I picked up last year for $1800CAN. 5.8L E4OD. this is my first car and Im 19 years old, doing everything myself with help from sum friends. Going to school next year to become a firefighter so I dont have a huge budget. After reading Joxracings build I felt inspired to start a thread of my own and build her up

SUSPENSION:
Im hoping to get sum help with sum idea of what things I should look into getting for suspension, I've got a budget of approximately $1000-1500 for the suspension. Im thinking 4" lift bucket coils (I dont know what brands to look at?), extended radius arms, I'd like to do C&T axle but looking at my price range Im probably gonna have to live with a drop bracket. for the rear Ive heard that deaver springs are the best so I'd be looking at a set of those, which part # would I be looking at for a deaver 4" lift spring. Ive gotta quad shock front end I dont know what brand of shocks I should go for gonna need them.

Front brakes are completely redone with new wheel bearings, ball joints are still good. Rear brakes are gonna be done before I start spending money on lifting it

ENGINE:
So far Ive rebuilt the motor, installed a COMP camshaft, new springs. ported heads In the process of installing a 4 core radiator, new water pump. possible plans for the future a K&N cold air intake. High output alternator

TRANSMISSION:
gonna flush it, and a Torque Converter lockup switch thats about it

DIFFERENTIALS:
Stock 3.55's, fluid was changed recently

TIRES:
I just purchased a set of BFG A/T's 33x12.5R15, so far Im loving them

BODY:
I built a pre-runner style pushbar for the stock bumper, I think it looks badass. a rear tube bumper. Tube tailgate with built in tire rack. Ive already repaired the small rust issues I had, and removed the shitty tire rack that been splitting my tailgate for 15 years

Looking great! How does the motor run?

Pm Baja Scott, he is a top notch builder and might be able to offer you cut and turn options.

thanks,

Motor ran well, a tad more torque than it had prior can get both 33's spinning even with the limited slip diff which it never was able to before. Engine does tick a bit, sound like just one lifter tho. took it into a shop and the mechanic says Its nothing to worry about, cant hear it while driving just a bit at an idle so my guess is a lifter just aint pumping up quite. I did overheat it slightly going up the mountain a few weeks ago but she still has got good wet/dry compression so Im not too worried about it, hence why Im dropping a new radiator and waterpump in her

I forgot to mention Ive also removed the vacuum pump and shortened the belt, not cats. MSD distributor cap and taylor plug wires

her in the shop today, tight fit. just topped up the fluid today and put a vacuum tester on it to make sure she doesnt leak fluid anywheres. will see in the morning.

old rad was completely plugged with mud, sand, crap, even leaked a bit

all back together, completed the transmission flush this morning. for the first time ever it shifts smoothly, downshifts when it should. gonna go for a longer drive today to see if it corrects a few of the issues I was having. new cooling system is working awesome. got a few noises gotta look in too on. motor seems to have a little more valve train chatter than before the cooling system fix probably cause now I dont have a waterpump bearing thats fried...less background chatter!

Are you sure the tick isn't coming from the exhaust or egr? It might also be timing related.

Might be the EGR, I originally thought it couldve been the exhaust so I put a new gasket in her and it didnt change....completely forgot about the EGR tho thanks. Im pretty sure its valve train but I'll check the EGR.

there you are sir! I have no idea who makes them. I believe they were meant for blowing air down the rear window to keep the dust off it. Im gonna trim a bit off for the 3rd taillight

Me and a buddy kinda run a recovery team for guys going up the mountain, had a bit of fun yesterday recovering this 1981 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup that lost a front U-joint, and had a tire go down and eventually flat, and broke off the bead. Due to the Bronco having a broken hub. we took a 1996 F150 - 4.9L up. it was a bit of a trip.

Fun day, it took us about 3 hours to drag there ass home threw sum pretty terrible terrain. then we helped them get there spare from the house (what good is a spare tire if you leave it at your house) and we ended up changing the tire for them too

Back to the project. took it 4x4ing out in a gravel pit and noticed a horrible grinding/thunk sounds from the LF hub. went out and got sum warn premiums

Image

and another thing, probably gonna do a ZF5 swap by march, gonna have a donor truck hopefully by the end of the month if all goes well

I had to do a double take at that f-150, i thought it was my Nite. :D

How does that recovery business work? I was debating kinda starting one up here, because of all the dumbass kids who take there parents yukon's on the trail and get em stuck, and dont want the parents to find out.

Well finally figured out my plans for the suspension

Procomp 4" lift with radius arms. FOA shocks. gonna make my own Coil buckets with shock towers and a cross beam over the engine. once I've got this setup I'll start to invest in a C/T'd front axle or attempt it with a jig Ive got from a friend who used to do it. Rear end will pretty much remain with whatever Procomp sends me. possibly blistien shocks

Also today we had a dump of snow up here, first of the year which is odd for this part of canada (usually it comes in november)

Image

And lastnight, my buddy's girlfriend was driving his truck. roads were icy but the snow hadnt fallen yet. when she lost control and went off the highway rolled the truck acouple times going 95km/h. she walked away and is alright thankfully! wasnt the first time "shes easy" has shown off her underside, as my buddy had flopped her on its side once before, which is where she got the nickname "shes easy". She was a good truck, and still runs, fired her up in the lot.

R.I.P "She's Easy"

Well now the transmission swap is finally happening, snow has dried up.

Ive got myself a 1992 F250 4x4 with a 351-ZF5 for $500. Plans are to take the 351 and E4OD outta the bronk, and the 351-ZF5 outta the F250 and put the F250 drivetrain into the bronk while I tweak sum issues Im having with the Bronks 351.

pulled out the bronks interior

Pulled the broncos motor and trans

Image

didnt have a tall enough jack, so used the bobcat to lift the rear of the truck to drag the trans out... Oh yeah thats full droop in the rear!
