Re: Philo's 93 Bronco aka "Lucky Bronco #3"
I was running a spare tire out to a class 7200 truck near MM139 in Parker and had to climb a 45 degree gravel trail. Driver motor mount was broken so it kicked out of 4wd from motor torque, rear end locked, truck slid sideways off the hill into a Creosote Bush (It was a very large one) which bent the exhaust forward about 18" and pushed the fender mounts in. Frame is fine.
It's an easy fix... I just need to straighten the mounts out and do some crack repair on the fiberglass.

These are made by Ruff Stuff Specialties and will allow the use of Chevy D60 front spindles and Stage 8 locking nuts. Aluminum hubs would be nicer weight wise but would be more of a hassle prep wise. The goal of this axle is something that I can run for years without anything more than an oil change.

Are Chevy d60 snouts different than the ones on the D60's found on Fords or Dodges???
Those hubs look cool. How much do they run the average Joe?

Re: Philo's 93 Bronco aka "Lucky Bronco #3"
Sterling center with 10.25 ring gear (Should handle big tires better than the 9"), Also has a factory VSS (less of a pain) with 120 teeth (more accurate on big tires).SteveG wrote:Nice! That's a lot of gear. What's the plan?
Custom hybrid axles (35 spline sterling inner and 35 spline Dana outer)
3-5" wider overall than a stock axle
Baer calipers and rotors (12" rotor most likely)
Parking brake moved to t-case
5/8-18 studs
Flange yoke on drive shaft for quick changes

Re: Philo's 93 Bronco aka "Lucky Bronco #3"
I kind of thought this was a sterling deal. Any reason you went that vs. dana 70 center section? Probably because you already had one - right? And then the sterling also has the VSS port. I always forget people need those little boogers since my stuff is too old to have them.
From what I have heard the d70 35 spline at the center section is the same spline as a 35 spline spool, locker or whatever you'd buy for a 9". It made me consider a fabricated 9" housing using stock d70 snouts & hubs (I'd be going 8 lug).

The snouts are slightly different. You can get the hubs and spindles for Chevy or Ford. The mounting plates from Ruff Stuff will mount either.
The hubs are about $225 each depending on who you buy them through. I am a Yukon dealer if anyone needs anything.

The Sterling uses the same 35 spline as the 9" as far as I know. My understanding is that Dana used a different style 35 spline than Ford did.ChaseTruck754 wrote:I kind of thought this was a sterling deal. Any reason you went that vs. dana 70 center section? I like the Sterling, have experiance with them and they are cheaper and easier to find than a D70. It also has the VSS. I believe the Dually D70 has a VSS too.

This is the flange I am using. I like these because it is so much faster to change a drive shaft. The flange also gives you a great way to mount your extra shaft. The down side it it uses up about 1" of drive line length.

Dana splines have a different pressure angle than Ford's. 60 versus 45.........

JBG = Jeff's Bronco Graveyard.
Autofab sells some nicer ones with a part # EB-302.
I got a really good deal on these or I would have bought the Autofab units.
