I am getting really tired of driving my long bed crew cab as a daily driver. I have always liked the Subaru sti. Does anyone here have one or know anyone who does and how do you/they like it.

Vic had one, FAST AS SHIT!!! Tons of fun to drive. His was actually a Wagon, WRX..... bug eye, but you get the picture. Minimal mods wake that thing up big time.

My step dad has an STI... FAST AS SH*T!!! He has done a few mods, but it really is a fun car. Unfortunately I have never driven it, but I can tell you that I have never been sucked into a passenger seat as much as I have in his STI.

I've got the enemy ( Mitsubishi evo 10) and I can't begin to tell you how much fun a turbo'd all wheel drive is. Needless to say the wife drives it because I'd get into a huge amount of trouble. I have heard the only issue is thatvevery time you drive it you have to set the car.

Re: Sti
My Ex-bro-in-law has one 2005 STI. Had K&N use it for test bed for cold air when it first came out. Dyno'd 293 whp with just an intake. He has since added Cobb tuner, Cobb downpipe back exhaust and a few other mods. Another friend has one (2005 also) and let me drive it after picking it up from AEM with intake after using it for testing.....the adjustable front/rear bias is AWESOME and really works. I cranked it back to 65% rear bias and damn near spun it out doing a U-turn.
Its GREAT!!! I would love to have one. Another option is 2008 VW R32. its not as fast but way more refined. Just thinking about driving it makes me sit here and smile.

Mine is a 2004 WRX wagon. 227hp/5 speed. The STI is the BOSS of these cars but for the cost/mods avail. You can get STI power out of the 2.0. I get 27hwy with mine. 63k miles and no probs.

Turbo/awd cars are like a video game to drive. They are point and shoot with tons of grip. My SRT4 on the other hand, a legend in itself....

In a word, Yes. They provide the most bang for the buck. I would have bought an STI myself but in Hawaii they are the Holy Grail of Imports, like the 93 RX7 or mid 90's Supra, cannot get one.

Re: Sti
I've driven 4 generations of the WRX, they are studidly quick and handle really well. However, after a drive on the track in the Golf R32 against a WRX, I have to say, if I was going to lay down the coin, the VW would get the nod. Its not as brawny fast, but the refinement and manners are second to none. A 46 yo in the R32 against a 19 yo in a modded WRX MY 03, he was faster down the straight, but I was all over him in the corners. It took 6 laps to pass him, then I just used my racecraft to keep him at bay. When we swapped cars, in the WRX, I ran away and hid.
Just my $0.02

AWD and a turbo are super fun on the street, especially when it's raining.

Bad to the bone, if you buy one used find out who owned it, there cars are really expensive to repair. If you buy it used make positive that all maintence has been done and there is paper on all of it, subaru is a PITA with warranties.

The #3 piston likes to melt when the turbo gets hot.

My brother has a WRX wagon that he drives daily and loves it. IF I were to consider a newer car to buy & drive it would be a subi.

Well Most of you guys do not know me, but I have been a crew chief on a Rally car team for the last 12 years. I have had the pleasure of driving both the STI & Evo in stock trim and race trim. I lean more toward the Evo because of the way it feels to ME. The STI is a great car in stock form, and mostly reliable until the boy tuners start having their way with them. I have always felt the Japanese AWD cars are far superior than the European ones. They have a far greater reliability and quality the Euro's just lack. I personally would not plop down my money on a R32 or Audi for that matter without at least owning a STI or EVO for a season. Get an STI and you will not be disappointed. My .02$ worth.

Re: Sti
Took the WRX out to the pineapple fields here and was able to hit 85 in the dirt roads around the west side of the island! This car flat out hooks up in the dirt. Everything I hate about it seems to be an advantage in the softer stuff.
Once the Bronco is done I am going to setup this car for dirt....wait, it already is!!!!
