Design the front end the way you want it and the pick out your shock. I run sway aways because I couldn't afford bilstein short bodies. I haven't had an issue with them and I've been running them for over a year. I like them but its been a pain trying to get tech in them.

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Front Suspension
Here's a few pictures of my go fast front suspension build. It's for a class 3 race bronco. Rules allow 4" wider than stock so this build is 3" wider (1.5" per side). When it came time to do radius arms and locate the front end, we decided we better final the rear suspension first and then locate the front relative to that. Rules allow 2" longer than stock wheelbase and I want to push the front as far forward as possible with the rear end in stock location.

The widening gap is filled with plate that was bent up in the metal brake. The splice matches the profile and construction of the beams.

I cut out the fill plug and inverted it to make room for the truss I plan to put there and also to allow for a higher oil fill level. I've found the ttb will eject oil from the vent if used continously at very high speeds (80-120mph). I use a catch tank on the vent so the oil drains back in when you slow down but I like the extra oil.

For the pivots, we wanted to use an oversized uniball instead of the one that drops into the stock bearing cup. I took some 3" dia hole saw scraps, tack welded them over the pivot cup and used them to center the hole saw to bore out the stock cups to accpet the oversized uniball cups. The width of these larger cups is perfect.

Thats how Scott built mine. It turns out really nice, just know that the drivers side beam bracket (passengers side beam) will hit if the cup is sticking off the beam enough. With the bigger radius you will need to shave one or both sides down.

Where to they measure track width from? and what is the score approved official stock bronco width?

I didn't know you could go more than +1 over stock width. That the whole reason I have stock width beams on my Bronco is to have some fun in Class 3 someday.
Very nice work on the uniball cup. I normally blow them out with a torch and then plate the backside. Very tight on stock pivots, my cups just barley clear.

Center of tire to center of tire tread. Easy way to measure is outside of one tread to inside of other. 4 inches over allowed this includes wheel spacing so account for that if you have different than stock wheels. I dont know what the official number is . just a couple Tecate puddles as they drive by and easy measure ha ha.mkiefer wrote:Where to they measure track width from? and what is the score approved official stock bronco width?

Does the catch tank feed through the bottom then gravity feeds back to the diff?baja-chris wrote:I've found the ttb will eject oil from the vent if used continously at very high speeds (80-120mph). I use a catch tank on the vent so the oil drains back in when you slow down but I like the extra oil.
Are you running in 4wd at those speeds or just have the hubs locked with the diff free-wheeling?

i was thinking some 6 over beams and some honda wheels...... lol should end up about the right size. i wish that Bill would just put a number on it so a rule would be a real rule.. you know.. say my bronco came with a centurion package and some sweet 15 x10s.. do i get to use that for my basline??MOSS2 wrote:Center of tire to center of tire tread. Some teams have been known to bring two sets of wheels just in case someone knew how to use a tape measure at a SCORE race.mkiefer wrote:i was thinking some 6 over beams and some honda wheels...... lol should end up about the right size. i wish that Bill would just put a number on it so a rule would be a real rule.. you know.. say my bronco came with a centurion package and some sweet 15 x10s.. do i get to use that for my basline??MOSS2 wrote:Center of tire to center of tire tread. If they made more than 500 of those Centurions you may have a case, or a loophole but most would call you ...... for doing it.

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Front Suspension
What is causing the oil to escape at 80-120? Is it the axles throwing it or the diff working as a pump to fill the tubes?
Is the Vent on the top of the diff or on the tubes?

We will fully cycle everything and clearance as required. Looks like it will be ok but if not, no big deal to address it.hobbyturnedobsession wrote:Thats how Scott built mine. Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Front Suspension
Yes, the catch tank fills from bottom and vents on top so it just gravity drains back. I used to have a class 8 with ttb 4wd and always had the hubs locked. It would run 125 (big Patton class 8 engine). In 4wd I don't think I ever got it much above 115.SteveG wrote:Does the catch tank feed through the bottom then gravity feeds back to the diff?baja-chris wrote:I've found the ttb will eject oil from the vent if used continously at very high speeds (80-120mph). Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Front Suspension
I don't really know but I think it's just slinging off the ring gear/diff. The factory vent on a ttb d44 is on top of the diff. The Ford owners manuals used to say not to use 4wd above 60mph. I always wondered if this was why.SuperSixAxis wrote:What is causing the oil to escape at 80-120? Is it the axles throwing it or the diff working as a pump to fill the tubes?

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Front Suspension
That makes sense considering the ring gear is stuffed right next to the vent
