A co-worker of mine, in the styling department, has a concept for a very affordable replacement body for any stock VW pan. No cutting or welding required. He says it's the most significant change for the VW platform since the Meyers Manx. It is aimed at the baja bug class. This professionally designed body has unlimited applications from Baja 1000 to street custom. He hopes to produce a fiberglass body by this time next year. He is following the same concept-to-production methods that they use for new semi truck models to be introduced to the market. It all starts in clay, by hand. Computer solid models are created from the clay models later down the road. It's very impressive.
The last picture shown is hand-sculpted, painted clay in 1/4 scale. Half of the car is modeled next to a mirror to show the full effect. The tires are hand tread-ed and wheels are chromed styrofoam.
Brandon printed out a bug chassis, and modeled the drive train in clay and tires in high density foam.
