Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
Ok, I'll definately check it out. Thank you. I'm goin to throw a pressure gauge on it tonight. Here was something that Andy noticed too. When we were checking for fuel pressure, he pressed the shrader valve on the fuel rail and air came out before fuel spirted. Can anyone take a guess why?

The injectors were clogged open and drained the rails?hobbyturnedobsession wrote:Ok, I'll definately check it out. Thank you. I'm goin to throw a pressure gauge on it tonight. Hmmmmm ok that kind of makes sense, seeing that there was a really rich smell when we were messing with it on the trail.... The ecm controls that correct?

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
The "air" in the lines could actually be fuel vapor. You have to remember that gasoline can boil at as low as 100 F due to additives. 1lb of fuel pressure raises the boiling point between 1-2 degrees F.
A modern fuel injection systems normally has about 40-50 psi of pressure and circulates to keep fuel cool. Anywhere heat can soak the lines will increse the overall tempature of the fuel. Unless you have routed your exhaust extremely close to a fuel line it is unlikely to be your problem. Headers actually run cooler than manifolds due to less restriction, you also have no inner fender wells so hot air escapes sooner.

So I should check my fuel pressure then? The vapor I always thought to be bad at the fuel rails.

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
Bill was saying all his symptoms sounded like vapor lock. Makes sense, once it cools down, it runs fine and driving on freeway it does OK but heat of the day, beating on it in Baja (low air flow and constant throttle) allows the headers to heat the fuel line. Said he had a factory built 4wd lightning that did same thing with headers.philofab wrote:The "air" in the lines could actually be fuel vapor. Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
It did ok, fumbled a bit. Anything below 1700 rpms and it would act up. We were going through the hilly portions too. If it was down hill and I wasn't hard on the throttle it did fine. Up hill coming out of San Diego I started loosing power, and at 75 mph it ran 5 degrees hotter than at 70. Wouldn't the motor running lean cause it to heat up a bit?

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
I would check presure while the problem has presented itself. Low voltage at the pump will create the same problem.

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
What would cause low voltage at the pump?

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
I just read something. My evap line runs to my intake. I heard if the tank is topped off it can cause vapor lock and take days to undo. Could this be my problem? I will just unhook it. I was shaking around alot.

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
Okay so an update. I threw a code finally, a 327 which is a low voltage to the evp sensor. I replaced it. Still nothing different. Then I replaced the cap rotor and coil because I have yet to do it. I ended up with msd stuff because it was slightly more than duralast and alot of people have had good luck with it. It did a wee better but still issues. I threw a fuel pressure gauge on it and sure enough 25 lbs. Then I hit it up and it fluddered from 40 to 18 and when I shut the truck off it dropped 5 lbs in just over 10 seconds. So I ordered a new fuel pump (carter) and a new fuel pressure regulator. We'll see what happens.

Re: HTO'S BRONCO BUILD
Well success!!!! I replaced the throttle cable, and that was for my own preference. Then I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the fluttering stopped. Then I got my fuel pump and replaced that last night. I'm back to barking the tires!

I truly think this will be one of your best investments in time and you'll truly thank yourself when you use it! I love mine!hobbyturnedobsession wrote:thank you! I'm in the midst of cutting out the floor now. I know I did it bass ackwards but I didn't have a grinder at the time.

Fantastic news on getting the problem sorted out. It's always such a huge win when you get a difficult problem figured out and then repaired.
Sounds like you and Carly are ready for the next epic adventure! COOL BEANS!
