Re: 1986 351w Go Fast Beater Bronco
You had asked about the modification I made to my coil-buckets to center and retain the upper end of the coil. That's all it did. There was no adjustment. I can add washers at the bottom of the coil to adjust ride-height if needed. It's not as convenient as the adjusters, but I rarely have a need for them.
What I did was cut the top out of the coil-bucket and welded it into the top of the fabricated bucket. Then I used an Autofab upper retainer to sandwich the top round of the coil and keep it from coming out.

Very nice SteveG how much to make me a set. I like the James Duff coil mounting kit he makes. You could adopt it to your coil bucket design. No one makes a smile but stronge design that does not cost a arm and a leg. I am in the process of change my coil buckets to JD's but it will be aot of work. Then install the F250 shock mounts. Just a trail rig no go fast here in Ga.
Thanks,

excellent thank you sir! I will be getting this then i guess!

Got the vac lines fixed, dashpot hooked up to the solenoid, no more throttle snap, much smoother throttle transition, and fixed remainder of vacuum dead spots and check valves, so everything is ready to have the thermactor system hooked back up.

got the templates done for the plating today, picking up some 3/16 P&O and having it cut this weekend.

Re: 1986 351w Go Fast Beater Bronco
Going to start buzzing up the rad arms up today after work.
A/c compressor seals took a shit, after my 100.00 investment in r134. FML.
The vaccum selector module deal on the a/c heat controls is shot, and leaking. and being that vacuum is right off manifold, i still have a decent vacuum leak.
The oil leaks have really been bothering me, and really starting to make a mess under the hood with all the misting.. I'm not convinced this is ring related yet, its running too well. added a 5/8" hose into the breather from a punchout in the air cleaner, Changed the oil which was showing signs of breaking down, put some 10w40 in, pressure washed everything really well, and spent about two hours spraying all of the connectors and oem wiring with parts cleaner, removed all the nasty 25 year old electrical tape, and made some order of the wire raceways. I took it down the road last night and opened it wide up on pinnacle peak to about 75, i haven't seen any misting or wet spots yet, ill look after work today when i get home.

Here's a shot of the perfect tailgate, really lucked out, not a single dent, and zero rust. However. the PO primered around the freaking brushed accent cover... any suggestions on getting a nice finish again? was thinking some scothbrite strips on an inline air sander? Keep it all brushed? put the oem red decal across it again? what do you think?

Re: 1986 351w Go Fast Beater Bronco
I get steady dribble out of my breather setup, especially on extended hwy runs, my 302 seems to run as decent as it should for being an almost 200k mile motor from the early 80s. I add about half a quart between oil changes, unless I play in the sand a lot, then its more.
Looking good, can't wait to see some of the work you do to that thing.

I haven't looked in the air cleaner to see if its pushing back that far, but will check today. I don't think im burning any oil, just leaking

A set of coil-buckets or retainers?DukeSky wrote:Very nice SteveG how much to make me a set.
I bought the coil-buckets. I believe they were built by Foreman. The retainer is just the top of a stock bucket and the retaining washer is a leftover Autofab part. The entire retainer is really just a bad imitation of the Autofab set-up. Theirs is by far the nicest upper retainer for coil-bucket Fords.
The stock lower works great as-is.

Damn those colors are crazy! They are a good deal if you can stand the bright colors though.

Hah, I dig them, Reminds me of Joe Fab's Sand limo's,,, they were always 80's crazy mc hammer pants colors... makes me want to blast " hot for teacher"
Im also trying to make up my mind whether or not to keep the stock rear bench ( im mint condition, ford blue, but rattles on that floor mount) go with a wide bench and mount to stock location, or run two more buckets..... thoughts? I have two pitbulls that always take trips w me.

they can go on the floor , i have dog beds that fit in there, but if i go bucket i'd remove that latch mount and mount the buckets forward quite a bit.

and I know I know, the bung end looks like shit, but I laid out some stringer passes first. I was having issues with my welder and fusing the two plates right there onto the bung, it was doing weird shit. . I actually got it a little too hot and may have warped it on the first pass, if so i guess ill be going bushed

Well I wasn't happy with the way the first one turned out, so i pre-heated the bulky sections and it worked out much better. All of the boxing is done, and the sleeves are drilled out. I still need to get the bolt on shock mounts made, and the ear plates cut.

Re: 1986 351w Go Fast Beater Bronco
got 90% of the top bolts back in without having to pull the top which was nice,( stood up like ape inside, slipped in u clips) and the key switch for the tailgate window went out, so it only rolls down, not up, which i found out when i was trying to open the tailgate to get in to bolt that top up lol.
I'm also driving it this week due to my ranger needing new injectors... word of advice, don't buy reman'ed bosch quat port injectors, they lasted about 15k.
Still feeling out for oil leaks, but the blowby has since been greatly reduced, so its not a mess to drive anymore.
Waiting on my radius arm brackets to get cut,the reinforcement ears, and still need 1.25 heims , 6 shocks, coilsprings, limit straps and bumpstops. after front end is on , hopefully mid -end of sept, its getting dropped off at Nocturnal Fabrication to get caged. Hoping for a glamis trip thanksgiving.
