The Mexican border agents may try to collect taxes on this stuff guys. I think this is a great thing for a worthy cause but be prepared to fork over a few bucks. The more packed your rig is the higher the odds of being stopped going south at the border.

You make a great point. Definitely something to be mindful about. It maybe a good idea to try to spread across some of the items we are bringing into multiple vehicles to not bring attention to them. I'm going to pack a few duffle bags with the clothes and items I am taking down.

Great idea Chris, with 20 vehicles, and us crossing through TKT, I think we should be ok, but spreadking the bags amongst all of us will be great!

Boy I may have bit off more than I can chew. Work has been insane this entire month and August looks even worse. Its been 12-14 hour days everyday which leaves me no time for prep. I did order some new rear springs from Deaver which Don was kind enough to pick up for me last Friday after dropping off my shocks at King for a rebuild. I spent all day last Saturday pulling out the old springs, punching out rivets on the spring hangers so they can be modified for the 2 1/2" springs. Got the old bashed in gas tank removed and swiped the pristine fuel tank skid plate off my old 84 Bronco to go with the new fuel tank that showed up yesterday. Then my back went out. I tried to work through it Sunday but I was a hurtin' unit and called it a day early. Its better now though. I've got to pull the coil bucket off the passengers side to repair a crack in the shock mount. Also found a crack in one of my header tubes and I'm hoping the new headers show up in time. I'm trying like heck to get ready but I have my doubts. We'll see.

Damn Rick, hope you can get work done and get her down here. On a side note, I responded to a thread on FSB regarding your seats. Can you send me pics of how they mount, how they look, etc etc. I am contemplating some Mastercrafts BAJA XDs for princess.

I had the Baja RS in my Jeep Cherokee, and they were super nice. I did not like two things:ChaseTruck754 wrote:Do it Tony! 1) The tweed, It is uncomfortable for long trips, so I much prefer vinyl, or leather
2) The width, my "mothering hips" needed another inch or so
The new BAJA XD is 1" wider per side, and meant for the superduty, so one of they things they are doing is selling them in grey and smoke vinyl, which is supposed to be very close to the inside colors Ford uses. That being the case, I am pretty excited about these.

They are pricey, anyone here sponsored by Mastercraft so I can get a little bit of a break??

I'm usually much more of a fan of cloth seats than vinyl/leather (vinyl you stick to and it sucks on hot days and leather doesn't age well at all) but I've thought suede would be cool for the things. I wish I would have though of that before I ordered my mastcrafts 7+ years ago - haha.

Agreed, the tweed is much better longevity. Different strokes for different folks. my A/C will keep my but cold, Vinyl cleans easier and will match the rear bench better.ChaseTruck754 wrote:I'm usually much more of a fan of cloth seats than vinyl/leather (vinyl you stick to and it sucks on hot days and leather doesn't age well at all) but I've thought suede would be cool for the things. The challenges you guys are having gives me motivation. Sounds bad, but I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Haha! Still have a lot of bugs to work out in the next couple weeks. Driveline vibration is the big issue right now. Gotta get it!!

Re: BajaHID.com Excursion August 2011
T,
MasterCraft will build custom seats... I got mine 2" wider and 3" taller... very, very nice to fit the tush over those long, late chases... it's not a race truck and therefore don't need the tight hip hugging grip. I also had them make my seats with my material, not anything they had in their stock, I went out and bought what I wanted and they built my seats with what I supplied... that way I got exactly what I wanted. I don't known if they still do that though.

Pretty sure they will Tom - it's just you gotta pay for it.
On the topic of the trek again - Karen is now for sure out. That means I'm most likely riding with Andy & Lily. Need to talk with Andy to see when he's heading home, but if he hangs for a bit on Sunday I may see if I can sneak in with Philo or maybe Chris P. to head back North as there is now a family event with Karen on that Sunday afternoon that I'm trying to be back for.
