I think that you may need to get a reader. Reading through the check engine light can be a PITA. Looks as though your truck is a 3 digit code truck. When you get your codes you will get hard faults first a separator code of 111 111 then your intermittent codes. The process will keep repeating till you pull the wire. It sounds like you should have at least an intermitent code. Here is a link to what the codes mean.

As far as digits I think around 94 is when three digit codes came into effect. If your truck is a california truck then it may be OBDII. Not a big difference but the processors have 104 pins and a few different codes.
As far as getting the codes pulled some of the parts stores like Kragen will loan you a code reader if they still allow it. (they stopped doing it in my area). The computer usually will record the intermittent code (when the light comes on and then goes off) for a few key cycles.
A couple of items that may go out that are ignition related but may not really set a code are the stator, coil, or TFI module. Try and get the codes read then go from there first.
