Underhood Placement
Ok, so since I have all the new goodies, I've had a primary concern. Where is everybody shoving their crap? What I mean is, the smog canister that goes from the smog pump, where is an ideal place to mount it? How about all the vacuum canisters? Last but definately not least, how are people with flared fenders mounting their fuse box?
I'm just here for the views. It helps me feel wanted.

Re: Underhood Placement
I built sheet metal mounts to hold everything. I moved the fusebox up a bit. Some people retain the inner fenders with some modification to mount everything on.

Can anyone supply pics please? I'm beating myself up over how to mount everything securely.

Yeah but I'm 3 up 3 out, and I couldn't get the fender well to mount back up. Do you have a suggestion? I still have them tho

Re: Underhood Placement
Curious how you finally sorted this? I'll be facing the same question on the Clapper 8, the 80 F100 Flareside, 2wd I'm building. I've got Auto Fab's bent beam kit on the front and found early 80s style Auto Fab fenders and hood on Craigslist here in the Portland area for $240!

Re: Underhood Placement
I welded some small tabs on the c/o kit for the vacuum cannisters, bolted the smog pump to the back side of the battery box, and welded up a plate to hold up the fuse box, and made another primitive bracket for my water overflow tank but its aftermarket. After that, I got really zip tie happy. I'll post pics later.

Re: Underhood Placement
HTO,
Just a couple of pics on how I solved the problem. I have Autofab glass up front (fenders and hood) and I built a frame core support instead of skinning my fenders. So, I welded brackets to the core support frames to help hold things in place. I've also fab'd up aluminum fender wells and they are stout enough that I mounted the vacuum canister, the air pump intake filter and muffler and my +12v power distro strip directly to the fender wells.
On the driver's side, I mounted the air box, the fuse box and the ICM to the core support frame.
Just my approach...

Re: Underhood Placement
Thanks for posting the pics. There will be no grief from me over creative use of zip ties. It really isn't that hard to add a couple flat plates to mount stuff. Since mine is an 80 There is a lot less stuff on the fenderwells. The battery is going in back so I don't need to worry about supporting that. This truck isn't fast enough for it to matter but what do you estimate the weight difference between skinned fenders and decently fabbed supports or a set of Auto Fab's supports?
Thanks guys

Re: Underhood Placement
Tom has set the bar for underhood placement. Pictures do not do justice to how he has set everything up. Everything has a spot, a reason, and looks 100% functional!! This is by far the best way to do it (and I am sure not cheap btw!!)
