Re: "Blanc-Oh!", my distraction
RR wheel bearing seal started leaking. On pulling it apart I found a groove in the seal surface on the spindle. There is no "Speedi-Sleeve" or similar made for this, so I filled the groove with J-B Weld Putty and then carefully sanded off all that didn't fill the groove and polished the surface.
Somehow the spindle has grown just enough that the inner bearing wasn't a slip-fit on it. I had to use a puller to get the wheel hub off. That left the bearing and the old seal still on the spindle. So then I had to use a 2 jaw puller to get the bearing off and there isn't enough clearance to get behind the race. That destroyed the roller cage, so new bearing needed. I ordered a new bearing and had checked the box when it arrived. The box has the correct p/n on it, but the bearing does not and it clearing is too small. Argh! Earliest that I can get a same brand new bearing here is Monday, but I found an SKF 1/2 hr away. P-brake shoes are oil saturated anyway, so replacing those too.

There's a reason why I sometimes call this truck "Snowball"......

Sorry to hear that, TS! I hope you can get the new bearing on there..

The fit isn't so tight that a bearing won't go on, it's just tight enough that it's not a slip-fit. I'd forgotten that I had to use the wheel bearing nut to push it into place during the first assembly. It wasn't in need of a ratchet to push it on, I could turn the socket directly by hand w/o any strain. I'm going to keep buffing it with emory strip, see if I can't loosen the fit by a couple 1/10,000's anyway.

Always wondered if this was done, glad that I don't need to.

Re: "Blanc-Oh!", my distraction
After adding a bung and a 15psi pressure relief valve to my fabricated remote PS reservoir and getting the original PS box back from Lee PS I bought a new hydraulic filter and installed all of it. Used GM 10-5073 PSF exclusively to fill to system and it has just a tiny bit of PS noise. I suspect that driving it will calm that down. If this were a race engine you'd never hear it.

Re: "Blanc-Oh!", my distraction
Got a win this morning. Nothing like last minute prep, heading up to Big Bear for the Bronco Bash's festivities this evening and I needed to swap out the PS rez. I'd added a pressure relief valve to the vent on my own rez and had been testing it. System still whined, but I hadn't gotten as far as doing the tires in the air, lock to lock sequence yet. It was down maybe a pint, so topped it off with Delco PSF and cold started it. No whine!!! Did the tires in the air gig, still no whine! Calling that a win. A bonus is that the quart sized hydraulic fluid filter is back in the system, so maybe a little over a 1/2 gallon of fluid in the whole system.

Re: "Blanc-Oh!", my distraction
Well so that trip to Big Bear revealed a problem with the PS cooler. It still has the stock cooler on it, but the drive out to Lucerne Valley was just short of 100°F ambient and once the PSF got hot the OEM cooler was over matched and the pump started whining. The next day on the drive home it was ~20° cooler and the PSF stayed cool enough that it didn't whine. Clearly it needs a better PSF Cooler. Looked around a little and figured go big or go home so this for the new PSF cooler: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-331212
Unfortunately the best place for it is where the air horn trumpets already are. Figured out where to move those to, and started working out what the brackets for the cooler need to look like. Pictures to come when I have hard parts in hand.

Re: "Blanc-Oh!", my distraction
Added a 7 pass or so stacked plate/fin cooler. When I was leak checking it I realized that the hyd filter gets a pretty good 'prop-wash' off the fan, so my next mini project is going to be to make an AL heat-shield for it.
I also fixed the Protofab rear bumper latch for the right swing-away, for the 5th or 6th time. Each fix is an iteration on the last one. One day soon I hope to reach the final fix. It all started because they set the bumper too high and the anchors for the eccentric latches hit the tail gate when it was open. I figured it would be easier to make low profile anchors, and with my plan to box in the rear of the bumper their adjustment method wasn't going to work anyway. Such is the folly of man.....

Re: "Blanc-Oh!", my distraction
So...... PIP failed. Almost to the glassworks off 395 next to Owens Lake. No parts available anywhere in the Valley or the high desert. Was supposed to meet the rest of the group for a trip the following day at noon at Mono Cone in Lee Vining. Flatbed home, 4 hrs sleep, throw stuff in the TRD O-R DD, only late by 3.5 hrs.
Realized on the ride home in the flatbed's cab that it's been running warmer than normal, which I assumed was the heat, but that I also hadn't been hearing the fan come on. So new PIP and new fan clutch. I'll test it on the Mojave Road in a couple of weeks.
New vehicle spares include a dizzy, TFI module, CPS sensor, and a coil.
