My buddy contacted the seller and it has a bad starter, and possibly some other electrical bugs

Cool swap. That is a noisy mo-fo. But cool, nonetheless. The fact that it has a diesel title is a huge bonus.

Tempted to grab this thing for $800 and strip the 9" but looks decent enough hard to justify parting out.

A lot of those trucks had 8.8 rear axles too.

Yep, my 1986 Bronco came with an 8.8 stock. Now it has a 9"

It would just be the time on parting it out - and whether it's worth it to you or not. My '86 had a 9". I bought the thing for $500, drove it to my shop, stripped parts I needed off of it & sold probably over $1k worth of crap off it before scrapping the body. If you have the time & the space the things are definitely worth buying at $800 or under I'd say. Especially if you need parts!
