Bronco Graveyard Family Full Cage

Post by Ant1tuned »

Its a 6 Point with 2 four bend (SCCA LEGAL) main loops. You can bolt the main plates or weld. You have to notch the cage your self. And the tolerances are tight so get it in as straight as possible.

Although that cage is better than not having one at all I'm a bit concerned about the dead tubes and excess bends. Does it block the bolts for the top?

I do agree. There are much stronger cages. But I don't have access to a tubing bender to make my own. But for the Price it was a good deal. You have about 1.5" of room to remove the bolts. So yes I can easily bolt and unbolt the top.

They have some nice prebent cages. Heard theyre pretty good and not too difficult to tie into the frame.

It's NOT DOM tubing, it's electrical cold welded tubing (I think that's what it's called), the kind that has the seam still visible/present. I know this because I just bought and installed the same cage, too, and I was surprised with the tubing. I think the rear section is a decent value IF you don't need SCORE legal setup or if you just need something quick and cheap to install for street use. But if you have the ability to spend a bit more money and time you'd be better off with a custom cage.

Lookswise, it's decent as well, except the rearmost hoop is really square looking from behind and doesn't fit the shape of the truck when the top is off - I think it should have tapered in a few inches on each side. I'm making that mod to mine when I can find someone with a mandrel bender locally.

Finally, do NOT buy the front cage kit - the legs are setup to mount and rise way too far away from the dash and it make it useless. Also the visor bar is not rolled in a radius to follow the curvature of the windshield - it just has a single bend at the center to try and get close to the glass.

Bingo, thanks. Would these pass tech at SCORE or similar?

No, mostly due to design.

What would a cage run to have built? I've been looking into it for the future.

I just glanced and saw rear section and seamed tubing...

$500 would be the fair pricepoint for a prefab cab cage un notched out of HREW.

What is the real pricepoint?

I was thinking about having a custom cage built until a guy I know had one done in his ranger. Front to rear (more than I need) ran him like 7000 without even having a dash in it..... 755 and build off of it might work ok though right?

Very hard to give an accurate quote via internet but depending on the price of steel and the material you go with you can guess for a full service job starting in the 4500 range on up. Alot depends as well how busy the shop is and how quick your turnaround is. The debates rage on as to material but for most of us 1/3/4 DOM is adequate if you plan on trying to get a score tech then you need 2" for our trucks based on weight. 4130 is nice but the cost is more. In the near future I may be able to refer you to a shop that is just starting out. He will be doing my coilovers and cage if I ever get there
