Check out this chunk! Chris (Dust) sent me this remnant of 7 1/2" rod. Now I've just got to whittle it down. After reading the IB thread on RDC, I'm a little concerned about whether or not Delrin will handle the temperatures of these shocks. Sounds like they may run hotter than most. Anyone have some input on this?

What kind of temps can Delrin handle?

Bore the Delrin to carry a Rulon(sp) bushing or plane bearing as the contact sliders...
In theory Delrin will not melt until you get to 375°F, however the theoretical maximum service air temp is 180°F

I thought I read that Delrin was good to a working temperature of 220. I think Big Bird used aluminum. The springs that RR shocks has are not solid capable, so I'll have to use a spacer to stop them before coil bind. Perhaps their sliders will work for my shocks? Doubtful, but I intend to find out.

Some do go hotter BUT I'm not sure what exactly that alloy is, so I used the conservative numbers.
Should hold to 220, but 180 is the lower long soak number.

Maybe those low temps are the reason I had sway away sliders explode on a non running beam car sitting in the sun in front of my shop.

Delrin is an interesting material but I much prefer PET, that stuff can be... fun.

You have a 4" shock with a pretty low motion ratio. They're not going to get that hot.

So you ever have any luck on the tenders?

Actually, yes. Ron from RR contacted me. He's got 8" long tenders in stock for $135 each, or he can make them to my length for $160.

Sweet! Don't forget that I also have 450lb coils that will work on those shocks.

Finished up tying in the shock towers yesterday. The original crossover was not working out the way I want it to, so I cut it and spliced in another piece to triangulate it. The intention is to leave the back open to facilitate tying in the cage in the future. It's not pretty, but it should do the job.

Just need to finish up a couple of gussets and mount the limit strap hangers, then I can get everything painted and move on to something else....FINALLY!

Looks great B, I really dig the tie down to the frame of the center section, as well as the open tube for future full cage tie in.

Nice!

Paint! Woohoooo. I decided not to add any additional gussets at this time. I want to see how this is going to hold up, monitor everything for cracks and learn from what happens. Sounds ridiculous, but I'm really curious exactly where and how it will crack. Then I can add gussets as necessary and monitor the results.

Thanks Scott! Got it all painted...in an Earl Scheib kind of way. Well that's not true. I missed some spots. Haha!

In some respects. The problem is, I can't quite find the dollar tree. Still almost a grand left to spend to get this wrapped up.
