Re: chevy l.s. engine swap vs good old ford power
I have a 95 F150 that I'm going to perform the swap on and have already bought a 6.0, a th400, and gearvendors overdrive. But have no idea what I'm going to do for headers! Anybody got any ideas what will work???????

From what I have looked into it, any 99-06 GM truck shorty header should fit fine. If you are 2wd you will have tons of room.

Nice! I'm a Ford guy but those 6.0's run damn well.BIG-B wrote:I have a 95 F150 that I'm going to perform the swap on and have already bought a 6.0, a th400, and gearvendors overdrive.

I am 2wd and there is a ton of room but stock manifolds will not work. Thanks for info Phiilo, I will look into the shorties.

Truck manifolds? SmartAlex has manifolds on his Bronco. Looked like it had tons of clearance.BIG-B wrote:I am 2wd and there is a ton of room but stock manifolds will not work. Thanks for info Phiilo, I will look into the shorties.

Either way I'm a bit jealous & am anxious to see the progress. LQ4 or LQ9 are what I want to look at when my time finally comes.

For the Bronco. Scored the whole complete engine for $800. Included flexplate, starter, fuel lines, complete harness, ECM, & fusebox, even the O2 sensor.ChaseTruck754 wrote:For the bronco or ___????philofab wrote:Back to the top...

These are low compression so it should be ideal for Pemex.

Sweet deal! The lower compression is why I think I am more after an LQ4 than the LQ9.

Re: chevy l.s. engine swap vs good old ford power
If I were to do it all over again, I would go with the 525-hp LS3 crate engine GM Performance has available over building up my 351w to a 408. You can get it for $7600 from Summit. The 6100 trucks use the 430hp version and haul ass so I could imagine the +100hp version. The LS would have been cheaper, easier to deal with, have way more parts available that actually apply to how we use and build our trucks and are easily tuned and more plug & play. I'm quite a bit more $$$ into the 408, but every part has been changed and better than whats comes with the LS3's, but Im very impressed with how well the LS3's hold up in racing conditions.

I was thinking of that kit too, but I thought it was 430hp. Still good enough for memotoxscott wrote:If I were to do it all over again, I would go with the 525-hp LS3 crate engine GM Performance has available over building up my 351w to a 408.

Anyway, it looks like it uses Camaro pan, which from what I hear is good. My question here is the exhaust manifolds. They are Camaro manifolds. Would those fit in a Bronco? If not, I wonder what one could do to change to headers. CARB may have a fit with truck shorty headers, because that engine kit is approved by CARB using the supplied manifolds. Any thoughts?

Re: chevy l.s. engine swap vs good old ford power
you think they'd be able to tell you switched manifolds? Not sure on GM parts, but is there a part/engineering number cast right into them? My thought is a stock manifold is a stock manifold, but I know with the BS that is CARB that may not be reality.

When they say it's carb approved is that approved to go in anything. That sounds to good to be true!

Re: chevy l.s. engine swap vs good old ford power
I read the EO on it. Any care or light truck 1995 or earlier. It is true and why it is awesome. If the manifolds will work, this is what I will be doing way before I build that 200hp POS that's in it right now. That and a manual 4L80E with a Atlascs_drums wrote:When they say it's carb approved is that approved to go in anything. That sounds to good to be true!

Why the manual trans vs. auto with full manual valve body Brian? I know a 3rd pedal can be very fun, but for a truck that sees as much dirt time as yours I think I'd want the auto.cs_drums wrote:Im thinking that with and LS3/NV4500/NP205, a guy can dream right!
