Raptor Killer #2, The Family Wagon

Post by cs_drums »

So I am not reeeaallly gone "build" this one but I am planning on doing quiet a few little custom doodads to make it a great family wagon.

1990, 5.0, AOD
Stock other than Edelbroc shorty headers

Here is the plan for now-

Polish Stock Alcoas
33x12.5 (Maybe 35s if I find a geared read end for next to free)
Bilstien 5100 (thanks for the rears Bray)
Front bench seat out of a F150 ex-cab
Receiver hitch behind from bumper

It needs a trans and I am debating just getting the AOD rebuilt or 5 speed swap.

Here it is the day I picked it up. I got it for $700. I am trying to make this as cheap a project as possible.

So I've been sick for 2 weeks and everything is taking longer than id like. Trans is out and going to get rebuilt tomorrow.

Stripped some Alcoas and going to start polishing tomorrow. Once the trans is in it's getting a set or 33x12.5 BFG ATs and an alignment.

So currently I'm thinking of trying to find a 4.10 sterling out of a f250 and converting the front to 8 lug with chevy spindles and hubs.

I'm trying to stay away from the gofast with this one and more goslow and never break haha.

Sorry it's dark out. It's running a little rough and I'm not sure why. Put all new plugs, cap rotor. New air filter, fresh oil change.

It sounds like a loapy cam.

Passed smog woohoo! Still trying to work some bugs out. When cold starting it stumbles and dies. Once warmed up it runs fine. Any ideas?

Idle Air control valve, maybe. Also there are a couple temp sensors on the motor might want to check those also.

Update-

I have actually become so busy that I have reached that point where time is more valueable than money and do to makeing enough money but just being way t o busy with all aspects of life. Not Happy about it.

I have been fighting with the intermitten pulseing idle and random stalling for a a few weeks now. Checked fuel pump and pressure regulator, all good. Then I pulled the IAC, one of the bolts broke result in 3 brokent bolt ectractors and many profanities being screamed before I just pulled the whole throttle body off my spare motor, which had a bad IAC on it! Through a new one on and it seemed to fix it till the next day. So after having to have my wife drop me off at work for the first 2 days of the week I threw in the towel and took it to a shop. Turns out the EGR selenoid was bad so pulled the one of the donor and hopefully that will do the trick.

I stumbled upon a shop in Vista and checked out there yelp and nothing but good things. So far I am extremely impressed. Ill keep you all updated if you live in the area.
Shop is called, Ye Old Car Shoppe

Still looking for sheap or free parts to get this thing dialed in for my wife-

Decent blue front seats
niterior trim from cab to shell

It needs shocks pretty bad. I keep going from thinking I want to get a set of 2.0 or 2.5 renbuildable shocks or just stock replacement.
Its a hard pill for me to swallow that this thing is not a GFB it a Family camp wagon hahah

Ye Old Car Shoppe in Vista lived up to the Yelp reviews. The guy did a full diagnostic for $45. It turned out to he a bad EGR selenoid. I had an extra through it on and it runs like a Top!

Modified the rear bench for the child seats.

It's for sale [PENSIVE FACE] doesn't make sense financially with another little one on the way. Wife not digging the 2 door with a 4 year old and new born.

-New Trans with deep sump Alluminum pan, shift kit and new converter by Clutchworks in Vista.
- Transfer case inspected resealed, clean bill of health by Clutchworks in Vista
- New water pump, thermostat, and belt all done today.
- Detailed inside and out By Hoehn Mercedes in Carlsbad (dad hookup) really clean for 25 year old bronco!
- Newish 33" BFG AT
- extra 5.0 motor, ran when pulled
- extra trans and manual shift transfercase, trans bad but good core.
- extra rear drive shaft.

All it need to be Rick solid family rig I was going for is-
-Headliner, sagging
- AC service, blow cool not cold
- shock, 25 year old shocks are tired.

I did everything on this too keep it but again life gets in the way.

GFBer price $3800
