F100 brake question

Post by Randyg12 »

'71 f100

Finally getting around to installing my autofab front suspension, and have a question regarding the proportioning valve. Since I am switching to disk brakes in the front, I've read I need to replace my PV, or my front brakes will drag.

So my question is, what's the best way to go about this? Was thinking of going to the JY and pulling one from a late 70's f150 that has drum/disk. Is there a better option?

Also, anyone know the part number (or make and year) of the rotors for the autofab kit? Need new rotors and can't find the info.

Its the master cylinder I believe that will make the brakes drag and not the PPV. I think many people give full power to the front brakes and try to dial back the rears as they typically are much easier to lock up.

The PV in these old trucks should have the residual valve in it. The residual pressure from this is what would make the brakes drag as if I remember right disks need about 2lb residual pressure & drums are 10.

I do remember also reading that guys like to put on the later 70's F-350 master cyl. when doing this swap though.

f you haven't, I'd do a bit of reading in the 67-72 forums on www.ford-trucks.com on this. TONS of guys doing it. I've parted a few of the 73-79 trucks on CL and always get tons of calls for the power steering pump stuff & disk brake stuff from the 67-72 guys.
