Going wider

Been day dreaming alot....and thoughts of going wider keep popping in my head.

So here goes, I wrote this list out of the expense and necessaery parts to go wider...

3.5" Wider Beams with Axles $2500 (probably solo or threat)
Matching new rear axles housing (currie F9 with Axles) $1000
AutoFab Glass all around $1000
Painting glass: $500
Misc Tabs, and install: $1000

All in, probably: $6K

Recoup Expense :Current Fiberglass, Current Cut and Turn Beams, and 9" Housing (maybe $1k)

.... what am I not thinking of?

Possibly new grade 8 hardware: 80$
Hiems and uniball weld washer reducers.
Dave at threat pawned off the cheapest 1 1/4 hiems money could buy with my kit, just an FYI. I'd upgrade them if you get the same as I did.

Getting by and going wide don't work together. Wait until you can do the swing set and do it all at once. Better yet...hold off on the paint and do the steering. Hehe! That's my super biased red neck opinion.

This can't be true. You were the biggest proponent of stock width. I like wider a lot but it's going to cost a heck of a lot and you might find that you were good with stock width.

I will say though, if you're going wider, why not 4.5 inches wider. Also, Jeff's Currie F9 rear end is only 3-inches wider overall and it fits his rear glass pretty tight (3-inch McNeil bedsides) so going wider than that might not work too well with 3-inch wide glass.

Don't forget to order more Teflon to keep the Baja pinstripes at bay. Wider=more brush scratches. Is it May yet?

Hey Willie,
Just for giggles...... I am at a very very happy phase with the bronco. Looks and performance are both in a great spot right now. This year my focus is little key maintenance items, possibly a rear bench to match the seats and that's about it. That being said, I am Always planning the next upgrade I guess. Auggie is right, I have been a big fan of staying stock width, but I guess sooner or later wider is the next evolution, that, a stretch and a full motor build. Hahaha

I will keep an eye out for deals, this by no means is a concrete next step... But more of a what if.
Any how, back to our regular scheduled programming.

Personally I would only go wider if I went longer. I feel like the width isn't what's holding the bronco back, it's the wheelbase.

I happen to be sitting on a more affordable +3.5 setup.... "sitting on" is a stretch. I really mean leaning against the wall in the garage next to the glass hood and 2.5x12 Fox shocks. hahaha

In my opinion going a lot wider has some drawbacks of no longer being able to drive around stuff. You better upgrade your shocks because you pretty much have to drop it in the ruts or between the bushes and rocks and hit whatever comes.
