Issues with new 4.5 over axles

Post by cccstrokinitracing »

Iam in the process of installing my new front suspension
( M&M fab. Works ) 4.5 over beams and threat axles. My issues
Started as the new axles with new u-joint would not fit thru the
D44 knuckles. I smoothed out the axles "ears" with a grinder and cleaned
The Rust / deber the inside of the knuckle. That helped and I had to lightly tab
Them in. Now I can not get the axle to seat into the third member. Any ideas ??
Thanks

Having to clean up the casting/forging marks is normal. I had to do the same on mine. Do you have the stub axels attached via the new u joints? You should just be able to twist back n forth till the splines line up and they should slide right in..
That being said remove the axel count the splines, they could have given you 33 vs 31 spline ect. I'm just guessing.

Ya the stub axles are connected , and before I installed the knuckles I put the axles in just to
Check and make sure everything was ok. They went in fine without the knuckle on. I
Think it is an alignment issues and have tryed moving the caster nut every way possible
But they still will not seat properly.

Also thanks for the solid body mounts again

no prob. When the guys did the cut n turn did they clock the diff bolt holes? I'm wondering if its either clocked too far or the turn is too much turn. So you have the snout off the knuckle when doing all this right? The way I did mine was ( snout removed) install the beam, then attach the knuckle, then slide the axels in, then install the snouts.
Be sure the orientation of the diff has the 2 side bolt holes bolted up too. This will ensure the correct set of bolt holes is used in relation to the bolt circle on the pumpkin.

Yes snout off the knuckle , not sure on how they clocked it as they are kind of "one off " beams and I called but can't get any good info. From them on how they fab. Them. I will try to give it another try this weekend. Thanks
