I would be interested in a couple of pairs of hangars if they are for 3" wide springs and you round the edges. I already have shackles. Factory hangars seem to bind on the shackles due to not enough clearance.04yfzkid wrote:Hey Philo, do you have any interest in any drop rear hangers and extended shackles by chance? I am pretty bored up here so I am designing some, and hopefully will be sending them to get cut out in a couple weeks or months lol. Not sales pitching them, just seeing if they are even worth making a few sets of them if all works out.

Re: Big Bertha
Sweet I will take that into consideration. They are for 3" wide springs. I am going to round the corners more, and everything will be keyed. I will keep ya posted on how they turn out. I just want to say I made something someone else thought was good enough to run on their truck lol.philofab wrote: I would be interested in a couple of pairs of hangars if they are for 3" wide springs and you round the edges. Re: Big Bertha
I've finally decided on how to build the rear axle...
Sterling 10.25 center retubed to be 8" wider over all.
Factory limited slip stuffed with an extra clutch and steel
Ruffstuff Dana 60 spindles
Factory Dana 50 hubs and rotors
Factory axle lengths are 33.5" & 35.5". This allows me to keep stock pinion offset with 37.5" & 39.5" axles. I am told 39.5 is the longest made.
Stage 8 locks
Solid Axle Industries 35 Spline Drive Flange Kit
Some sort of OE bolt on caliper
Transfer case disc/drum parking brake or separate mechanical caliper on each rear wheel.
So, now I need to find a 4.10 long pinion Sterling in the JY. Including the cost of another axle I should be around $1000-$1400 into it.

Probably not. The tubes are 3.5" x .250. I don't think they will be an issue.tcm glx wrote:Gonna truss it as well to deal with the weight of BB

Re: Big Bertha
Worked a little bit today disassembling the TTB parts for the new front end. Man I hate separating the ball joints on these. I still need to pull the Dana50 apart so I can splice the two sets of beams together.

Will be 90-92" track width.... ready for plating, truss, radius arm mounts, and shock mounts. I'm going to build three point radius arms for these.

DAMN Philo!!! Looks good. I never thought about extending that way....is that the way it's usually done? Can't wait to see more progress.......

Re: Big Bertha
These are Dana 50 beams... I have never seen another set extended. If I ground the weld and painted them most wouldn't even be able to tell they are extended. I am lowering the pivots about an inch and a half, so no cut + turn on these.Silverslk wrote:DAMN Philo!!! Looks good. I never thought about extending that way....is that the way it's usually done? Nice. That makes beam end alignment issues almost non-existent.philofab wrote:I am lowering the pivots about an inch and a half, so no cut + turn on these.
Do you still need the brake calipers? I'm seeing Nick soon. Should I give them to him?

Yes please. The calipers have a $30.00 core each and are not cheap.SteveG wrote:Do you still need the brake calipers? I'm seeing Nick soon. Should I give them to him?

Re: Big Bertha
I read through the build and not sure if you already ruled this out. What about a Dana 80 from a dually f350. If I am right they should be about width you are shooting towards. I was on car-part.com looking for a rear for a friend and saw this one in Phoenix.

Re: Big Bertha
My understanding is that a dually rear is almost the same width as what I have.

Re: Big Bertha
I'll try to dig up the info that I have somewhere. I had a 97 f350 dually and it had the dana 80 rear not the 10.25 and it was 3" wider each side if I remember correctly. The cab and chassis duallys did have the same 10.25 that you have and are the same width as a SRW. I switched beds and ran h1's with the factory spacing dually axles and it worked perfect.

Re: Big Bertha
I asked this question years ago and the reply I got was the rear end was only 2" wider overall. As usual I had people telling me to run a D60 or 14 bolt rather than answer my question. Gotta love Pirate4x4 and FSB. If you can measure I would appreciate it.campbbg wrote:I'll try to dig up the info that I have somewhere. Re: Big Bertha
I sold the truck about 2 years ago so I can't go out and measure. I did save all the measurements in a notebook. I am in the process of moving (actually unpacking) and the notebook is in storage. I can slide down there this week and get it.
Off the top of my head it was ~74" wms to wms. If I remember correctly the 10.25 is ~67.25. There is an abundance of misinformation on the web and when I was asking questions I too got the same answer.... just put a 14 bolt in there.
By the way I tried just now to search google and came up with your threads on offroadfab, pirate, and fsb. Not much more discussion since then go figure.

Re: Big Bertha
maybe i missed something, but are you building a rear steer 10.25?
are you keeping the beams equal length?

Yes, beams will be equal length.magic carpet XLT wrote:maybe i missed something, but are you building a rear steer 10.25?

10.25 will not be rear steer. I'm just using d50/d60 snouts and hubs so it only requires one spare for all four wheels.

Re: Big Bertha
thats a cool idea. plus if you happen to bend a spindle the whole rear hopefully isn't trashed.
whats the pivot to ball joint axis measurement if you don't mind? if i make my van 4wd it will be with D50 stuff, i'm through swapping out I beams for solid axles
