Front traction devices

Post by 93fsb »

Hey guys, I'm looking to regear the front of my 93 bronco. A little run down about situation. 3 years ago I swapped to a 9" rear end with 4.11s and factory posi. So I regeared the front to match and installed a Detroit Trutrac it was great setup on road, offroad I wish I had a slightly lower gear. About a year ago I bent an axle flange while offroading, so I called around and found a buddy that had two shafts and a complete 3rd member with 5.13s and full spool for my 9" for $150 so I jumped on it and one rainy day swapped it all in to see how it would drive. With my 35s I love it for dirt purposes, street is another story with the spool as to be expected.

My question is has anyone used a full spool up front with manual hubs? Would it be that as an elocker when engauged?

I can reuse my Trutrac but it sees like it unlocks at all the wrong times when I'm offroading rather than staying engauged. I could see it being better in a rear application for turning purposes. This is a mild gofast rig but is sees alot of mixed terrain not only desert.
