Not much to show right now. Been super busy with baseball. Beginning tear down for swapping the trans this weekend. Trying to resist temptation to upgrade things at this point. Too much time. Too much money. Spent a few hours mounting the ballasts for the lights and running wires into the engine compartment. Moved the outer lights toward the center to protect them better and facilitate mounting a bolt-on brush guard in the future (haven't made it yet). Also moved the lights forward 3/4" so the grill can be removed without removing the lights. Didn't want to hack the grill up to do so. Mounted the ballasts to the skid plate. Had them there in the past with double sided tape. Worked well, so I just bought some cheap brackets and bolted them on. Didn't want to put them on the core support. More crack inducing weight. Hey Brian, I have all the internals out of Big Bertha and also a 92 Bronco E4OD. Let me know if you need anything.
Surprisingly enough Big Bertha had an Aluminum planetary and the trans was only rated to 750 ft/pounds. I now have a steel six pinion planetary and all the 4r100 upgrades. Trans is now rated to 1000 ft/pounds. Should be good since it was still ok at 190K and had never been rebuilt.

No progress on the trans, but finally got the HID's installed on the headlights. Now the workbench is clear again, so it's time to lay (on) concrete.

Woohooo! Baseball is over! Well, almost. Tournament begins July 2, but that's ok. My daughter's team won the championship!! Anyway, got to work on the Bronco today. Trans is just a few tornillos away from extraction. Taking the spare trans in for inspection/service this week and should have it swapped in next weekend. Fingers crossed.
Found some other issues while laying under the belly. Passenger rear shock is leaking out of the upper main body. Front passenger side axle splines are shot and the driver's side seal is leaking badly. The pinion bearings are shot in the rear end. Oh well. One thing at a time. Can't wait for August!!

The whore is back!
Got my driveshafts ready to go. Shortened the Primary and replaced the seal and a u-joint on the spare. Gonna build a mount for it in front of the spare tire.

Making some modifications to my cross-member links because they started cracking at the backing plates. Not finished, but got a couple washers welded in.

Added a center gusset to the cross-member links. Should help prevent cracking.

Real nervous about putting a trans in that's been sitting for 3 years...outside, but no shop wants to touch it without a full inspection. Best price I got if all it needs is a seal kit was $1200. It'll cost me $200 and a few hours of my time to put it in and test it, so that's what I'll do. May have to sell my bender and just go for the Mogi.

I would not put it in w/o inspecting because Automatics and i don't get along...
I figure any automatic will cost $1500...
I'll put it in and it will fail and cost me $1500 or I can just start out with the rebuild and put it in once:lol:

I got mine rebuilt and installed for 1500 cash. Also came with a 2 year warranty.

If it wasn't full of water and rust when you pulled the pan off, it should work like it did before it came out. And that may not be as great as you remember it or as good as the last guy said it did......... Unless you have an overhead lift and a jack, its more than a couple hour project to find out, so your cash flow situation will have to dictate the decision. There was a truck that just did the Baja 500 with a spare trans that has been riding around in the back of a chase truck for a couple of years. I would probably change the front seal if it has been sitting for 3 years and was used before that.

I say go for it. Put a new front seal in it, fill with ATF, and drive your truck.

Be aware the pin outs for the solenoid pack are different between your 96 and that 91 trans. Youll need to swap the solenoid packs or take the connector apart and re pin it.
