No, they don't exert a ton more force, it's just that all the others are floating so they exert force proportional to double the piston area.
Of all the brakes I looked up a 05-12 F350 with DRW has the most clamping force with 60mm duals (on a floating caliper) and they're about $50 each at the junkyard.

Well what I came up with a couple of years ago, was the front rotor off a srt10 dodge truck, its a 14" rotor that floats on the hub, with the 5.5 bolt patern, then I used a old set of wilwood forged superlites that I have had for over a decade in the box new. It barely clears on 17" steel wheels, so I never got past the fab, and fittment part. I think the toyota calipers are a waste of time because they are super heavy, and that puts a lot of undue stress on the knuckle. When I say you can get more out of pads, there is a lot left on the table when it comes to brake pad compounds. If your in So Cal and I think you are.. Look up Porterfiled brakes in costa mesa, but also the Brake man in camarillo. Ive had pads made for the rally car by porterfield, and rotors made by the brake man. so there are venders out there to help. We use Endless for pads now on the rally car, because they actually work for OUR scenarios..

Mike - Porterfield is on Placentia Ave. in Costa Mesa - around the corner from my old shop. I don't know the address off hand, but my uncles shop is at 1759 Placentia and it's in the same complex. Porterfield is right there on the street, so it should be easy to spot.

Cool thanks. I use Porterfield custom pads on my "road race" Lol BMW. And that car will take your face off with how good the pads work.
The bronco has Porsche track pads in the rear brembos. And auto zone pads up front. Definitely something to consider.

Autozone in the front and Porsche in the rear? Is that like the mullet of the braking world?Smart Alex wrote:The bronco has Porsche track pads in the rear brembos. And auto zone pads up front. Definitely something to consider.

If someone running the same brakes on all four corners puts the AutoZone pads on one side of the disc and the Porsche pads on the other what haircut is that?

You know I ran the auto zone pads in the front. The carbon whatchamacallits and I'll say I was definitely surprised. Granted this was a few years ago, I was very impressed. They wore really well and never ate up rotors. Only complaint was the mass accumulation of brake dust.

Re: brakes < gofast.. power booster vs manual brakes.
We are running manual brakes on the race bronco. It's 95 bronco calipers up front and gm metric calipers in the rear. Using a willwood tandem master cylinder. It stops pretty good just takes a lot more effort to get it stopped especially on asphalt. I like the idea of the tundra calipers. When I redo my beams I might look into running tundra calipers up front.

I have a coupe of modern cars and it sure is nice to have low pedal pressure to stop the things.
I guess the upgraded calipers up front and a hydro boost would be the way to go. I am sticking with 15 " rims so I have that limitation compared to 17" ones. However I have electric HB and it was a big improvement in stopping. Pedal pressure suits the wife, but I cannot lockup on pavement the so improvement is still needed.

While we're on the topic, can someone take a measurement for me?
The short version of the question is whether or not there's a 3/8 bolt's width of space between the stock rotor and brake pad mounting ears. I want to know if there's about enough clearance for a 12.5" rotor within the pad mounting ears and caliper using
the 94+ knuckle and caliper. A 12.5" rotor has a radius just over 3/8" larger than stock (11.71").

Hydro-boost from a Chevy Astro and use the stock master cylinder (may require some machine work to the MS). Easy, cheap and upgrades all four corners. If that isn't enough then step up the rear wheel cylinders, then calipers (at which point you can probably use the large Astro maser cylinder that came with the HB)PaulW wrote:I have a coupe of modern cars and it sure is nice to have low pedal pressure to stop the things.
