What year is your motor? If it has a map sensor, check the wires running to it, if they are not getting a good conection it will make the bronco shut down under load. Also it is pretty easy to replace, and cheep. They have a piece that can bypass the egr valve and make the computer think all is good. I think Ford Fuel Injection sells it. I have it and it helped mine. Good luck, i want to go carb as well!

well changed out the distributer with my spare, and it hasn't died yet.i think that the combination of old fuel pumps, filter, cap rotor, and a dirty iac, its now fixed for a while, now when it is time to retirethis motor,i will go carb at that time.
Mr cell tower, the map sensor connections are good and i just replaced it with a spare.
i am interested in the egr bypass thingy,if you can find a link that wiould be awsome!!

I am having a similar issue...lean codes popped up when tank was low. Truck would sputter like it was running out of gas. Filled up tank and gave to buddy to do work on at magnaflow last two weeks. Got back yesterday and drove around to about quarter tank or slightlyt below. Started sputtering and not wanting to go and since I serviced the vacum and egr stuff last time it acted up I figured its fuel. I replaced the fuel filter which was full of dirt and it ran great...for about 15 miles and even lower gas gage. Felt like running out of gas. Got it up to a buddy to check new CEL and it was same, lean codes. Checked pressure at rail and its 26 at key on, at idel and at 1500 rpms...test drive it wouldnt even begin to get out of its own way but this was before we did pressure check. Fuel at rail was clean, fuel into filter was clean.

Added 12 gallons of gas and its ran best its ever ran since I owned it (only 500 miles on it since I have owned it) which I contirbute to dirt fuel filter that I didnt bother changing since ford changed it 4 years ago(1000 miles) before the truck sat.

Will check pressure tomorrow with half tank of gas to see if its up at 35-45 where it should be.

when i pulled the low pressure pump out of the tank, the sock was crusty and brittle. after i replaced the high pressure pump, it ran like it never ran before when i got on it. both pumpe were original equip. and hell it did great since 1988.haha
i am really happy with the it runs now.my milage will be better once i get tired if mashing the throttle...lol

Does your bronco have a Mass air flow sensor? It may be dirty. My range had a similar problem and thats what it was. Do you run a air filter that needs oil like a KN?

MAF clean, PCV changed, no vacuum leaks, FP Regulator good, new fuel filter. Will test pressure today with gas but it still tossed a code with half tank but it doesnt stumble on its face and not make it up the hill I need to get over for work.

Picked up a delphi pump for 159(brought in rock autos $128 and they met me half way) at Oreilly and took advantage of their 50% off on tools and built the majority of a solid tool set for the bronco for $130...

emptied tank and cleaned out, pump sock had a hole in it and the inlet to the pump was clogged. The tank liner doesnt look the best but after cleaning out with a microfiber nothing showed evidence of it coming off.

Replaced pump...time will tell. So far so good even towed a honda in this morning that broke down the way.

maybe steve.... i did 869 miles since thursday, and used right around 84+/- gallons of fuel.
600 or so miles of pavement,269 +/-miles off road in 4wd.
my mileage numbers are a guess,i need to down load my routes and calculate the on/off road miles.
and add up my gas recepts...
