Been a looooong time since I actively looked at any of this, but form what I remember (Disclaimer - I'm getting old now, so my memory for random car parts isn't what it once was!) the 4L80 is a little shorter than the E4OD. And according to Culhane it was a much better trans for what we wanted to do with these things.
There definitely are drives side drop t-cases on the Chevies of I think the 2005ish era. I seem to remember the 241HD being the one I was looking at. I'm sure someone here may be more current on this stuff than I am though.

the ford NP205 t case will bolt up to the TH400 and 4L80 just make sure it the ford.....drop
You need the chevy np205 stock adapter for TH400 as well it also saves length. yes it heavy but it gives you drive line.
