For me, they're very confidence inspiring. Burly. Tough. Good street manners. Good in the rocks. Good in the rain. Stable in the dirt at speed. Quiet, even when worn. Balance awesome! Not even running weights or beads in the current set. I never ran Baja T/A's, but I ran BFG A/T's and M/T's for years. My only complaints were the paper thin sidewalls that always got punctured by sharp rocks and 3/8' sticks, and the noisy M/T's after they got some miles on them. I'm sure they've changed over the years (noise). Toyo's are reliable, period. They get you there and get you home. The biggest drawback is the weight. They are a bit heavier than other tires and that's a trade-off that is outweighed by performance, IMO. This doesn't mean flats and damage won't happen, but six years of success do say something to me. I'll take that over the cool single purpose tires any day. If I towed my rig to get there, well then I might have a change of heart.
Thanks Brian! Thats the input I want to here. I may be working a deal to get some projects in trade for some fab. If that doesnt work out I am going to cnsider the toyos. The 2 highlighted areas are what I see as deciding factors. I didnt dpesn all the time i did building this thing to pamper it. I run hard. I quite litteraly lost one tire to rock and one to a .... 3/8" stick! 6 years no issues com[ared to 2 plug, one blow out and another puncture to fix in 2 trips is easy math in my head.

Anyone know what major distributer that sells toyos and offers a hazard warrantee?

Squeeze a chunk of the Toyo tread on a street tire, and then squeeze a tread on a race tire. It's 2 different worlds.

I think I sometimes forget that most people don't use their truck like I'm used to. I'm sure the street Toyo's are fine for the vast majority of people, but in race conditions, I dont think they would last very long at all. My tire machine does not stress one bit stretching a street tire over a bead. To stretch a race tire over the bead I need another guy to hold the machine stable while I lean my 250 pounds on the other side.

That is the disconnect for sure. Big HP difference. I think most who don't actively race don't have race tires at their fingertips and/or at a price that fits a blue collar budget, yet are looking for the best DOT tire available.

Even the turm race conditions is a broad term. Ill say I put my bronco through more than many race classes will. I know several people who have raced on street tires in lesser classes than TT or Class 1. HAHA

So im basically right in between, do I need a race tire, probably not. Do I need more than a DOT tire yes. Is there something in the middle... not really. I will be in the overkill with a race tire and pushing the limits of a DOT tire. I guess Ill have to dump another 20k into my bronco to really appreciate a Race tire haha

Those waffle tire are interesting. I would not recommend running Projects on something you drive on the street. The tread on them is made to not hookup because they are designed for high horse power to save the drive train. I ran BFG All terrain for many years and got a set of projects, they are useless in mud, scary on the street in the rain and just not a good tire for a truck that is not a race truck. I have now Baja TA tire with the DT tread, basically a more aggressive tread and the sidewalls are much thicker and the rubber compound is much more durable than a standard street tire. I have not run them yet but they are louder on the freeway like a mud tire. I have several friends that run them on their Bronco's and on their race trucks.
They do weight more but will out last most if not all street tires.

I'll chime in. I don't have my truck built to kill tires yet but I can tell you I'd drive to Baja and back with no spare IF I had to. I really don't sweat my Baja's ever letting me down. If I have to make a trail I dont worry about what I might run over (short of a 6 ft Saguaro). Hell... I aired down to 15psi to get in my garage and drive it every night to the gym with that 15psi in it. they don't care and dont even look that low. hahaha They are LOUD though... thats for sure.

Food for thought, i bought the newer style falkens and couldnt be more happier. Theyre quiet, and look aggressive for an a/t. I may not race but I did run (before i broke mine) pretty damn hard and never had an issue with them. I had over a dozen trips to barstow a trip to baja, ocotillo, glamis north and other places. I also towed with them. Not a single gash or plug. I know falken was testing them on some koh trucks with success.

I'd run generals proudly even though projects would be my first choice based purely on cool factor. My bronco is not my dd though but they still have to be balanceable.

Whats up guys, I'm currently running the General Red labels in a 35x12.5 on a 15 inch rim and i love these tires. I previously ran a set of BFG KM1's (35) and a set of KO's(33) and these Generals are a much quieter and more comfortable street tire than the BFG's by far. I recently ran my truck at street speeds (45+) on some fire roads and they grip really well in the dirt and certainly better than the BFGs but the BFGs (KO) grip a lot better when cornering and the steering response was a bit quicker but overall its the best compromise of street/dirt performance. The Generals seem to clear out better at high speed.

Right now its coming down to a almighty $$. I may be trading some fab for bunch of projects. After talking with a bunch of people about it I really want toyos. Project will be tuff but im sure I will hate the lack of traction. We shal see.

Totally agree !! I have already have 3 sets of GT red labels by now (31" R15, 33" R15 and 35" R17) and they were awesome !! I will wait to wear out my current 35" R15 BFG A/T KO to switch back to Generals.

Make sure the projects hold air. They are known to have slow leaks on a lot of them - especially if they've been used on a race vehicle. Even for just 1 short race.
