Re: Custom 92-96 Hoods
I like the drop sections in pic #3 of first post. Those drop sections would look very clean on the 92-96 hood. I would be a buyer on that hood

If you think you can or think you can't...you're right!

Re: Custom 92-96 Hoods
Yeah, Steve is right, John at Autofab tried a full wide drop center for the 92-96, but here just isn't enough room to do it and look good, it didn't come out looking right. So, it seems to me that you'd have to keep portions of the hood and drop certain sections as suggested earlier... it then gets into who likes what and why... there are soooo many opinions on what folks like. I, personally, am not a big fan of louvers and scoops on "our" type trucks... they have their function, but don't really apply to our type vehicles other than style. You don't often see a Bronco zipping across the dry lakebed at a buck and a quarter worried about fiberglass hood lift and/or the hood ripping off at speed... back to style...ChaseTruck754 wrote:For "traditional" (autofab style) "drop center" hood on the 92-96 - the stock hood already slopes down at the front and is pretty low profile. Seems like it would be tough to get much more out of it.
Usually this is my thinking. The 92-96 just look so good as they come, or better yet with just flared fenders that they are hard to mess with!Travisfab wrote:These trucks just look so good with all the factory lines, it's tough for me to bring myself to change anything.
That being said - I'd love to see what you come up with.
Adding the dropped portion of that last one could be interesting. I personally also kind of like the scoop thing on the McNeil hood but am not much of a fan of louvers so I like & dislike that hood at the same time![]()
Also I've never been a lover of cowl induction hoods but that top pic is I think the cleanest one I've seen. It's a little less prominent (maybe the paint helps this?) and therefore I like it better than others I've seen.

I'm no rocket surgeon but my logic tells me that reverse facing louvers of some kind would help vent heat as well as underhood pressure caught by the grill doing 50-65 thru the desert as well... but like I said, I have fun with legos

Above the hood is actually a low pressure zone... so rear facing actually works better. A forward facing scoop will only work if it very tall or very far forward.

Re: Custom 92-96 Hoods
yup - like the black toyota on the 1st page. Scoop needs to be near the front edge of the hood to catch air.
Now louvers or air holes at the base of the windshield (as far back there as possible) might actually function a bit.

Re: Custom 92-96 Hoods
Seeing stuff like this below gets me thinking that if you had the louvers towards the front in the high pressure area towards the front of the hood, it would actually create a kind of vacuum for pressure/heat to be pulled from the engine bay, and they you could have a rear facing scoop/cowl to vent additional heat/pressure at the base of the windshield

And yes I know discussing aerodynamics of our bricks is a bit hysterical

Re: Custom 92-96 Hoods
The hood opening on the Vette is to allow air that passes through the radiator to escape so it does not create pressure under the car and reduce traction and down force. The Shelby Series 1 and other cars are the same. A bronco is so tall that it's not affected by this.
If you put vents in your hood, you will get more heat and engine bay vapors (unless your Bronco still has ALL of it's emission equipment) into the cabin via the cowl vents. This is why many trucks now have vents on the rear of the fenders.

I don't think the 92-96 has much more room for improvement.

I have had this thought many times.....buy a 92-95 lighting, then convert to 4x4 and throw on 80-86 front clip, with a 80-86 bed......... Basically Toms truck, only in a shorted, and keeping the newer style dash and interior.

Hey! There's nothing wrong with the '87-91 Nose. It's a cool looking front end. I sometimes regret going to the 92-96 but oh well. Also, its not the fugnose, IT"S the FUGENAWESOME nose
