Just wanted to get an idea on where to start and see if this is a common problem... Thanks 87 Bronco 5.0
I read about checking connections and cleaning them which we haven't had a chance to do yet, but I have looked at all the connectors and there isn't any sign of lose connections...
Thanks B

I have heard that the actuator/solenoid can be a problem point for them, but no personal experience

Tony had to have someone hit his engagement motor (on the transfercase) while pushing the 4x4 button on his when he first got it. Try that first at least help narrow it down. I have also heard about some relay under the dash......dont know anything else about that.

This! Tap in the motor while someone engages he button. I had this issue because it had not been used in such a long time when I first bought it. Now I make sure to engage once ever few months and havent had an issue since.Silverslk wrote:Tony had to have someone hit his engagement motor (on the transfercase) while pushing the 4x4 button on his when he first got it. The cover on the motor drive down on the t-case sometimes leaks and it will corrode the contacts. The cover has those tamper proof screws on it. Have also had the little plate that is glued to the gear come loose, then the controls don't know where it is. Also had the motor run too far and get stuck past the end of the travel. I always hold my breath when I punch that button. Is it going to go in? Or if it goes in, is it going to come back out?
