Re: Installing left inner tie rod??
Super easy to do. I think I could do it in less than 5 minutes.
Use two 5lb hammers to hit both sides of the long tie rod where the taper is at the same time after removing the nut. The taper should pop loose easily.
If you are reusing the adjuster spray it down with lube. I use a pipe wrench to turn it for alignment.

you might want to pull a quick measurement to get it close.
There is no substititute for Horsepower.

Re: Installing left inner tie rod??
Tie rod comes in the morning. Ill take a measurement before i take the old one off.
When i was at Napa i asked to see the F250 tie rod also and looked at the dimensions on the computer and all the threaded and tapered measurements are the same. The over all length was longer on the F250 unit though and the actual diameter of the tie rods were the same so i just got the bronco one. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Installing left inner tie rod??
Outer tie rod is the same between Ranger, Bronco, F150, F250, and F350 2wd.
Dimensions are slightly different on 3/4 and 1 ton TTB trucks due to different geometry.
The long rod is the one that bends, due to side forces from the drivers tie rod. The upgrade for that rod is the ambulance package tie rod.

You can lift from the beam. No reason to lift from the frame just to change a tie rod... as a matter of fact you could probably do it without lifting the truck.

Re: Installing left inner tie rod??
I know this is a old thread, but searching Tire Rod stuff is not working for me. Has anyone used a offset heim joint tie rod end on their steering. It might help with clearing a swing set setup and make it so no bend is needed on the cross over tie rod. I was thinking to use them at the knuckles.
Anyone see these used on a TTB?
Any pro or cons?

Re: Installing left inner tie rod??
Interesting. Cho’s runs straight tie rods as it looks like he ran the linkage out a touch further so as not to have a bend. Not sure that he I’m will completely remove the bend but it would make it slightly less.

I may have to look at Cho's steering and see if I can copy it.
Anyone have any pictures of crosover steering with straight tie rods like Cho's or other?

Check out SouthWest Performance. They have a new steering set up that correctly uses straight tie rods.
