Upgrading brake rotors to a larger size

I would like people input if they have upgraded brake rotor size or have seen it done. I am upsizing my wheels to 17's. My rear disks will be 13" off the current f-150 line. I would like to upsize the rotors and calipers in the front. Any ideas on modifying the stock spindle for this? I am aware of teh BMS spindle and that is the last option as an upgrade to this would run about $1500. I have an idea but I have not worked out all of teh particulars at this moment. Any input into what people have done or seen would be helpful.

Idealy I would like to go to 13" rotors in the front with a four piston caliper. I would like to stay with a stock style caliper as this will be street driven and I would like pistons with a dust boot for protection. Really teh caliper at this time is not important but rather the mounting of teh caliper and how it is acheived with a stock spindle is.

You might look at this article and see what you think of there mods. http://www.okcnetworks.com/bronco/brakes/ ignore the booster info being as this is for the older fullsize bronco.But the larger pistoned calipers seem like a good option.And maybe looking into a master cylinder with larger piston.Like out of a F-250 with a 460 in it.

Toyota Tundra calipers might be a good option if you can adapt them to your knuckles. They're powerful four-piston calipers that run quietly--just what you're after.

I was thinking about running the tundra calipers on my d44 what master cylinder setup should I go with for a ext cab ranger w chevy small block and 35" tires? I'm starting from a bare cab so anything goes. It is for a race truck will never be street driven

While I may be a noob I'd go for the biggest affordable OEM MC you can get your hands on, gives you a higher ceiling for how much pressure you can build. F-350, maybe?

EBC makes a nice replacement vented/slotted rotor.And Ive heard with those and there Green Stuff pads it makes quite a difference in stopping.

Can the early bolt-on caliper knuckle be used with an extention for the bigger rotor? Why weld when bolt on is easier

You can weld to the spindles easier than the knuckle. If you felt like spending the time you could also build a bracket that fits the spindles bolt pattern, or use the caliper mount from a 3/4 ton Dana 44 Chevy possibly. Those rotors are probably ~12" or so.

Nope, that's what the pre-heat and post cooling are all about.

I was thinking along the lines of drilling two holes in the knukle and having a bracket that set in between where the original caliper sat and cutting away the portion that hangs over the original rotor to make room for a larger rotor.

Funny thing is everybody swears by "super missile rod". If you look up the specs on it, it has less nickle than 317 SS rod. About the same as 308........... Actually, it's very similar in make up to 308.............

I've heard that SS rod works well too. I have a box of high nickle rod from way back in the day when I did a lot of stick welding. I've always just broken the flux off of it and used it to TIG cast crap. Most of it has been exhaust manifolds and intake manifolds for old hot rods.

Ah, the cracked exhaust manifold. For every crack you can see, there's about 10 more you can't see. I stopped welding those up years ago.

Do You have a part number for this rotor? Ive only found the srt10 rear rotor so far be close to this in spec. Also is the rotor floating or does it fit behind the hub with the studs? Id like to run this up front with some wilwood superlites.. Thanks.

It's a front rotor on newer trucks.
