Kenwood mounting

Where is everyone mounting this big ass base from the Kenwood race radio? Tips and pictures please, I've got the bronco gutted.

Any drawbacks to removing the speaker and mounting behind the panel? Or should I take it to the very back?

If your not gonna run a rear speaker, thats fine. If you are, move it either under the rear seat or to one of the rear cubby holes.

doesnt seem like any clearance under the front seats, the back floor idea rather keep clear for sleeping. For the very back should I cut the cubby out? It doesn't appear to clear

Sorry, meant rear seat. If your keeping that open for sleeping, then yeah you will need to cut the cubby out. Philo I believe did that on his blue bronco

All that work and the two swing out cup holders hit it when putting the panel back on so its either to the back and rip out the pocket or remove the cup holders.

Cut the back of the cup holder and glue it back in

Wherever you mount it, make sure the antenna cable/port are easily accessible in case you ever need testing/tuning.

You could mount it behind the panel and put a short jumper between the radio and the antenna cable to put that connection (for testing) somewhere accessible. If you want to do this, let me know and I'll build and send you the cable needed.

Great idea Steve.

Short jumper that goes down to the area where the lower seatbelt is. The panel that covers the seatbelt can be removed with one screw, so very easy access. That can work!

Let me know how long you need the cable to be. It'll be a cable with a male connector on one end and a female on the other. I just need the distance from the radio antenna port to a convenient, accessible space. PM or email me a shipping address and email.

Steve I mounted my radio in my F150 in this fashion and will be behind the interior panel. There's a bent piece of sheet metal welded to the body with nuts welded to the back for the bracket to bolt to FYI. Can you expand more on what the jumper of sorts does? Accessing my unit is going to be a hassle when all of the interior is back in my truck for sure.

It's just an extension. A male connector to connect to the radio antenna port and a female on the other end that your antenna cable/coax will plug into.

Hey Matt, this is basically what Steve is talking about.
It does make testing the SWR easier to hookup a meter.
I am just not a fan of adding anything between the antenna
And the radio. For me it is another point for moisture and dirt
to work it's way into the mix. Heat shrinking the pl239 and the pl259
Would be a good idea.
