Suspension seat on stock slider. Who's done it?

Post by RyanDS650X »

Oh they are
I'm going to a tempt to build a frame or the rear bench out of square tube and angle. What thickness should i use? Is 1/8" not enough?

I have done a few sets for customers. It is easy to do the front sliders and takes about 4 hours to cut down and clean up and fab. We also have a tubing rear seat frame that we cad up that uses all factory seat mounts to bolt in either 1 bucket, 2 buckets, or bucket bench depending on customer request. Its all easy stuff just time consuming. The first set up we did cost about $100 in materials. Hers some pics I hope it helps.

Suspension seat on stock slider. Who's done it?

Post by RyanDS650X »

The fronts seem easy enough but may have to pay someone to do the rear frame. I like this one southwest built because it picks up all the factory bolt holes. I'll try first and see how it comes out. How much is your rear bench frame Hollander? PM if you want.

I need a rear frame in the rear as well but I want to separate the seats as far as I can.I like Kritters design with some wide body seats.

Ya our frame you can place seats at any width. This customer chose packaged together so you are not staring at the back of the driver and passenger heads as well as placement of tool bags to the side. Depending on what you want with harness mounts and stuff we are probably looking around $350- $500 for the rear and $250 for the front and I need you stock sliders after you receive the Hollander Motorsports modified ones. Honestly the fronts are easy so if you have a good welder to glue it all together than it is worth it. But cutting up cleaning, and welding then throw a rattle can job on it and it will look great. Like I said we set it up to run any configuration of rear seats and it will still hold a 37" tire flat in the rear. And they are completely bolt in so no mods required.

If you guys do a group buy I will take care of you on price but I will need deposits up front so I do not get stuck storing big frames.

I have a feeling the shipping for me might kill it but who knows... Mine would be for a 48" 3 seat bench with tabs for 3 lap belts.

Honestly I would just need a real accurate measurement of the tabs. If it is something you guys are interested in feel free to shoot me an email at hollandermotorsports@gmail.com

seat tabs are standards for width & spread between the companies. Typically 14" (side to side) x 18" front to back) for a standard width seat. A +1 width seat would be 15" x 18", a +2 would be 16" x 18" and so on. This is for the vertical tab seats - ie. everyone but mastercraft. Although Mastercraft's "pro 4" seats have this tab setup and you can order the "pro 4" on most any seat from what I remember.

Short cushion seats are different of course & the bench seats have the tab spacing based on width of bench, but for single seats it's pretty simple.

Yes that is why I request measurements. Sometimes people buy used seats and do not even realize that they are wide or narrow. If you buy new you know what you have.

Or how about knocking out a few without the actual seat mount welded. The base alone is a big help and those could all be the same. Then people could finish them up

agreed. tabs are easy to add if the base is set.

That one from Southwest looks pretty straightforward for even someone newer to fab. Simple yet strong. I'm sure you can bust something like that out Ryan.

Did anyone else only use the bottom part of the front sliders, like Hollander's pics? Does using the whole assembly make the seats too high?

No not too high but there's no reason to weld those brackets to the seat frames IMO.

Agreed with Vintage on the no need to weld. As with most stuff I build my angle iron brackets were bolt on. It only took maybe 10-20 more minutes, if that and I just HATE having to cut & grind off work (usually some one else's that I'm fixing).

Anyway, I've done both ways with the slider (run both or just the lower). You just lose a bit of travel for the slider without the upper. Not a huge deal to many, unless you are 6'-6" and your wife/girlfriend is 4'-11" and you both drive the truck...

Height isn't a major issue with both sliders for an "average" height guy like me at 5'-10", so I don't think you'll have an issue going with either the single or both Ryan.

In the front the race type buckets do look odd/tiny to me in comparison to the stock seats (see Hollander's pics above), but they sure are comfy.
