No, they are not. Dana 50 ring gear is 9" rather than 8.5 with the 44. 50 has no carrier breaks but the 44 is at 3.73 / 3.92.PaulW wrote:========Kyles95 wrote:Title says it all. Doing 4.56 gears out back and need to match the front.
44 and 50 are identical inside the pumpkin all the parts are interchangable. No strength increase to go with a 50 vs a 44. 4.56 was my choice.

Additionally you can swap a whole TTB 50 center for a TTB 44 and vice versa. The 50 has gears available down till 5.38 while the 44 only goes till 4.88 and required shaft pin grinding.
That used to be true. The Dana 50 solid axle used in Superdutys is internally the same and has helped a lot with aftermarket support. ARB, true track, Lock-Right, Auburn ECTED, and clutch style lockers are available now. No standard Detroit but I'm not sure anyone would want one of those in the front.PaulW wrote:Thanks for the correction. I was told the 50 has many less choices for locker/lsd/ True?
