Distributor Drive Gear
Distributor Drive Gear
1993 5.8 - Looks like its a bastard year, with the possibility of it having either a cast iron gear or a steel gear. Without pulling the distributor, is there way to confirm which it is ?

Re: Distributor Drive Gear
If it is a flat tappet (hydraulic lifter) engine, it is cast iron. If it is hydraulic roller, the gear is steel.

Re: Distributor Drive Gear
5.8 roller only came in 95-96 from my experience. If its stock its cast iron.

Re: Distributor Drive Gear
Unfortunately I think you'd have to pull the intakes and then you could see the lifters/configuration to know (or pull the distributor). '94 was the first full year of the roller 5.8s.

Re: Distributor Drive Gear
Oh man, this caused me some major issues and cost way back with my first Bronco and a 5.8L. I could only find the correct gear through Ford Motorsport at the time. No pars store sold the right one and no rebuild distributor came with the right one… found out the hard way
