Hey guys,
I just started a road trip with my family...towing our travel trailer out to Colorado Springs to see my mom. anyway, first stop was Vegas, tomorrow we leave for Moab. We will be there 2 days. I figure some of you guys have been out there...any tips? My idea was to rent a 4 seater RZR and go check out some red rock trails. But that is the extent of my plan. If anyone has any good Moab advice I'm all ears.
We will also be in Colorado for a while (Co Springs and Buena Vista) then head back via Bryce canyon.

I was in Moab during Easter Jeep Safari and I had a blast out there. I only rode along on two trails but they were more than enough fun for me. They're not very difficult trails. We took two trucks through the slick rock trails... a ext. cab Ranger with full width D44 TTB front and Bronco 8.8 rear.. and a Bronco with a Camburg coilover kit. There was even a cool spot where we got our Go Fast fix.

The two trails I personally rode along on are Fins 'n Things (relatively easy) and Sevenmile Rim (JK's on 33s were doing fine here)
A few of my buddies hit the Moab Rim trail and they said it looks pretty scary on some parts of the trail but that it is doable. I hear the views from this trail are just amazing so if you decide to venture out on it.. make sure you bring a camera.


As far as just sightseeing, I hear Arches National Park is a cool place to go hiking to get some spectacular views.


A good place to stop and eat after a long day of fun in Moab is The Blu Pig which is off of Dogwood and Main St. They have really great BBQ and it seems like most people like their full slabs of BBQ Ribs but all I had was a BBQ chicken burger.. it was the perfect way to end a long day of wheeling.

I also recommend The Moab Brewery. It's probably the only place in Moab where you can have a cold beer or drink that hasn't been watered down.. plus their Moab Burger is pretty good too.


My last tip will be something I didn't realize until after I came back from a two day detour to Denver. A friend of mine asked me how I liked Eisenhower Pass and I told him it was pretty awesome to travel through such a long tunnel, crossing the Rocky Mountains. He then asked me if I took the Colorado River up to I-70... I was like WHAT

It turns out if you head north out of Moab, you make a right just outside of town on Highway 128 and you'll be treated to some awesome scenic views of the winding Colorado River.. all while shaving something like 15-20 minutes off your total trip time since you no longer have to do the long lonely stretch of Highway 191 to I-70. It leaves you about 22 miles from the Colorado State line. I highly recommend taking that route when you leave.

I agree fins n things. Also run hells revenge! I've been there a rental Jeep, a a rzr. The Jeep is way more fun!

Maybe someday when we can organize a GFB Moab run. Start it from Victorville to Primm through the Mojave Road (It would probably take at least a day or two depending on amount of dirt miles (Did it in 2 days for 200 miles last year). Then either spend the night at Wiskey Pete's (or other sleazy hotel of your choice). Hit the road the next day up to Moab, UT and spend three nights in town. Do two days of wheeling through awesome Moab trails and head home the next day caravanning GFB style.

Fuel would be just about $700 bucks total... that includes a 6 mpg fuel economy for 200 miles of Mojave Road and $120 worth of fuel for off road fun in Moab with Broncos that can average at least 11 mpg on the highway (I know some get better mpg). I figure about $300 for rooms so overall it would be about $1100 - $1200 after counting food and drinks. If you were to just do Moab, you'd be looking at just under $450 for just Moab and back but after including off road fuel, food and a place to sleep, you're looking at about $700.

Moab isn't cheap when it's all said and done. The more I think about it, it makes more sense to just go to Baja and have a blast and come back for less then half the price and twice the stories

A GFB run through anywhere would be just plain awesome and I'd be satisfied with just the Moajave Road.



So, who'd be interested in a Moab run?
