Mounting the turbo that far from the motor allows the exhaust to cool way too much. Period. If those were mounted next to the heads they would be making way more power and be way more efficient. While it may work, it's a really really poor design.

Correct. That is the reason that turbos properly designed are located right at the exhaust maniflold still have insulated inlet pipes. Turbos thrive on heat and any loss of heat greatly reduces the efficiency. No way to make it up after the exhaust heat is lost. If there is no room for the turbo at the engine exhaust manifold one might as well use a super charger on top of the engine or as some do, use a vortec. Packaging matters

I had an STS Tailpipe turbo kit on a chevy 1500 and it made more power tand mileage than the kennie bell blower that was on it before, super dependable, its still on that truck and it has over 250k on it, I would do another in a heartbeat...

They've worked out really well especially if you don't have room or of you want to keep them hidden. Some kits use theirs own separate oiling system as well. They're pretty big in the Corvette area. They've gone twin Turbo and made some real big numbers while keeping the car reliable. I watched a kit put on on the horsepower TV show. I liked it. I just don't know how well they hold IP to a prerunner truck beating around in the desert.

Yeah, I saw a guy running a Z71 with an STS set-up/nelson tuned 6.0 knocking out 10 second 1/4's in Sacramento a few years back... Pretty cool to see all 4 tires light up, just not sure how long that front axle or transfer case lasted
