In addition to the competition rally, NORRA has added a non-competition Charity Poker Run open to any vehicles that can handle the route. The Poker Run will follow the racers down the track and experience the same epic scenery and hospitality that NORRA events have become known for. Time to dust off those Raptors and get ready for the best run to Cabo ever!

NORRA General Tire Mexican 1000 Charity Poker Run

What Is It?

With a record number of entrants already pre-entered for our cornerstone event, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) is adding a new Charity Poker Run vintage-themed General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 trans-peninsula Baja adventure. Open to anyone with an off-road worthy truck, buggy, Jeep, ATV, UTV or motorcycle, the new Charity Poker Run will share dates, routes and overnight stops with this year’s fourth annual General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000, which is scheduled for April 27 – May 1, 2013.

We established our Charity Poker Run to accommodate ever-increasing interest from off-road and adventure hobbyists wanting to experience the annual four-day run from Mexicali to San Jose Del Cabo for themselves.

A non-timed and non-competitive event, the NORRA General Time Mexican 1000 Charity Poker Run will consist of a large percentage of the event’s entry fee going towards a single charity donation pool. Charity Run entrants will play a collective game of seven-card poker, collecting cards at various stops along the 1,100-plus mile route. Additional poker hands are available to entrants for an added contribution to the Charity Poker Run’s donation pool.

As an incentive to help stranded rally racers, Charity Poker run contestants can also earn an additional card by towing a vehicle to the day’s finish line or to an awaiting chase crew at the conclusion of a time stage.

Winners Receive:

-- Official NORRA brass winner’s trophy
-- A 50% donation of the final donation pool to the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame
-- A 50% donation to the charity of the winner’s choice


How It Works:



Entry Fees:
-- Vehicle/donation fee: $1,500.00 per vehicle ($500 donated into charity pool)
-- Addition poker hand fee $500.00 (all of this donation goes into charity pool)
-- Hospitality arm bands $60.00 (per person, for drivers, co-drivers and all crew)


10 Simple Rules:
1.Have fun!
2.Enjoy Baja!
3.While Poker Run participants receive an Official NORRA Route Book, GPS is strongly recommended
4.Each Poker Run participant vehicle should have race-quality FM radio for communications
5.Any Poker Run participant that tows in a disabled racer gets and extra card
6.Any Poker Run participant that interferes with racers is subject to disqualification
7.At the end of each day Poker Run participants will check-in with Rally organizers at designated area at finish line.
8.Highest seven-card hand at Charity Poker Run’s finish in San Jose del Cabo will be declared winner at that evening’s Mexican 1000 “Post Party” beachside at the Cabo Azul resort.
9.Charity donation checks will be mailed to Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF) and winner’s charity of choice by NORRA upon return to the United States.

I should of edited out "Raptors" and replaced it with "Go Fast Broncos". Anyway, the Poker Run does not require cages or other racecar safety gear since it is not a timed competition, it's a fun run for charity and you can earn extra cards by towing in disabled racers. If you have never been to NORRA, it is the most fun event I've ever participated in. Each night you get to socialize with legends and hang out with all your friends around the beach campfires. Hope to see some of you there!

Yep, overpriced, nobody signed up. Problem is the costs, it includes insurance which is several hundred by itself. Probably could of done it for $800 for the 4 days but not sure that is low enough to get entries and that would not leave room for both a meaningful payback and a meaninful donation to charity. Not willing to do it without having the entries covered by insurance. Neat idea, just did not pencil out.

It is a great idea, just hard to afford stuff like that these days. Maybe something similar could be set up locally. It would relieve insurance overhead and supply more for the kitty and charity.

We do poker runs for fun in the dez all the time but its just our friends. Hell I don't think entry into the baja is 2k lol
